Lady Dolphins take second in Gulf Shores Dolphin Classic
Milam throws no-hitter, strikes out 19; Culpepper has four hits in pool play win over Jackson; lose to Fairhope in championship game, 8-1

The destination may not have been what the Lady Dolphin softball team had wanted, but it was far outweighed by the journey they took in last weekend’s Gulf Shores Dolphin Classic.
Gulf Breeze won six games in two days before losing to Fairhope 8-1 in Saturday's championship game.
“I think playing these two nights did two things for us - one, we became closer as a team and two - it gave us a lot of opportunities to swing the bat,” coach Sean Tomey said. “It was a super two days for us.”

Lady Dolphins 5, Flomaton 1
GBHS scored single runs in the first and second innings before adding three in the third to beat Flomaton in their opener Friday.
Kori Ewens doubled to deep left field in the first inning and scored on a two-out single by Alison Milam, who had two hits in the win.
In the second inning, Anndrea Marsh doubled and scored when Amanda Curington reached on a fielder’s choice.
Kasey Landfair, who went 2-for-3, doubled in the third inning to score Adrian Culpepper, who reached on a fielder’s choice, and Milam, who singled. Landfair scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Canes scored their lone run in the top of the sixth.
Red-hot AC Amanda Curington slides in safely at home during GBHS’ semifinal win over Gulf Shores. Curington had two hits in the game, including an RBI triple.
Megan McDonald struck out four and allowed only four hits in the win.
Lady Dolphins 6, Jackson 0
Milam threw a no-hitter and struck out a career-high 19 as the Lady Dolphins blanked Jackson.
GBHS scored single runs in the first and fourth innings before adding two in the sixth and seventh innings.
Culpepper, who went 4-for-4, singled to drive in McDonald (reached on error) in the first inning. Marsh's groundout in the fourth inning scored Milam, who led off with a double.
Milam’s second hit of the game was a tworun homer in the sixth. Culpepper hit one of her three doubles to set the stage for Milam.
In the seventh inning, Ewens singled and scored on a passed ball, while McDonald doubled and scored on a double by Culpepper.
Milam walked only one batter in the win.
Lady Dolphins 5, Gulf Shores 4
In a battle of Dolphins, GBHS scored runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for a come from behind win over the host team.
Ewens scored the first of her two runs in the bottom of the first when she scored off a Culpepper groundout. Culpepper drove in her second run of the game when she singled to plate Kellie Krueger, who also singled.
GBHS took a 3-1 lead in the fourth when Jessica Watson singled with two outs to score Marsh, who also singled.
Ewens singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth. McDonald, who went 2-for-3, doubled to score Ewens before Milam followed with an RBI single.
Gulf Shores scored three in the top of the sixth, but McDonald, who allowed only two hits, got out of the inning and led the Lady Dolphins to the win.
Lady Dolphins 9,
Pascagoula 2
Milam threw a two-hitter and struck out nine as the Lady Dolphins won the opener in the single elimination part of the tournament Saturday.
GBHS took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Culpepper and a solo homer by Milam. Culpepper went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Milam went 2-for- 3 with three RBIs.
Gulf Breeze tacked on single runs in the third and fourth innings before the Lady Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the fourth.
Culpepper singled and scored on a wild pitch in the third inning before Kelsey Hebert singled and scored when Ewens reached on an error in the fourth.
Gulf Breeze put the game away with five in the sixth. Hebert, Ewens and McDonald all singled to load the bases before Culpepper singled to score Hebert.
Milam drove in two runs with a single before Landfair’s sac fly scored the final run.
Hebert went 2-for-2 and scored twice, while Marsh went 2-for-4. Ewens had a hit and two runs scored.

West Florida 1
Gulf Breeze, down 1-0 after five and a half innings, scored three in the bottom of the sixth to win a quarterfinal game.
McDonald, who went 3-for-3 with a double, singled to lead off the inning. Culpepper then reached on a fielder’s choice before Milam singled. Landfair drove in Culpepper with a single before Marsh reached on a fielder’s choice to score Milam before Krueger’s single scored Marsh.
Milam struck out four and allowed only two hits in three innings, while McDonald struck out a pair over the final four innings to get the win. Landfair went 2-for-3 in the win.

Gulf Shores 0
Milam threw a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as Gulf Breeze advanced to the championship game with their second win over Gulf Shores.
Milam walked and scored on a triple by Curington, who went 2- for-3 and scored on a wild pitch.
McDonald walked in the third inning and scored on a single by Culpepper.
Fairhope 8, Lady Dolphins 1
The Lady Pirates scoerd three in the second and four more in the sixth in a championship game that ended at 10:30 p.m., 12 hours after GBHS’ day began.
Fairhope’s Gray Adams retired 11 of GBHS’ first 12 outs of the game via strikeout.
Gulf Breeze spoiled the shutout bid when McDonald singled in the bottom of the sixth to score Rachel Viglione, who walked.
Gulf Breeze beat three of the four teams in the tournament (Flomaton, Pascagoula and Gulf Shores) who have won state championships in the last decade.
Tate 7, Lady Dolphins 1
The Lady Aggies scored three in the fifth and sixth innings to blow open a close game Thursday in Pensacola.
Gulf Breeze, who left runners on base in every inning but one, spoiled the shutout bid in the seventh when Haley Bohannon walked and scored on a single by Hebert.
The GBHS defense committed a pair of errors to help Tate score three in the fifth.
McDonald, who went 2-for-3 in the loss, allowed only two hits in three innings, but walked four. Milam struck out four in the final three innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.
