Barracudas win Spike and Splash Tourney

¦ U-14 team loses 17-15 in Game 3 of U15 semis; U16s take second

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News The Pensacola Beach Volleyball Club’s 17-under team was perfect in their inaugural Spike and Splash Tournament, beating the Mobile Storm 25-17, 25-13 in the championship game Sunday at Navarre High School.

PBVC Barracudas 25-25, Volleyball Pensacola 16-18

The sibling duo of Cheyenne and Caitlin Chapman both had five kills in the Barracudas’ first win in pool play.

Caitlin, a freshman at GBHS, had 10 digs, while Cheyenne, a junior, had five digs. Sarah Lewis added four kills, while Lauren Alverson had 18 assists.

Deep South 13-25

Navarre’s Danielle Willoughby had 13 digs to lead the Barracuda defense in a win over Deep South.

Lewis had five kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks, while Caitlin Chapman had seven digs and Lindsey Hawthorne had five. Alverson had 25 assists for PBVC, who had 16 aces in the win.

Gulf Coast Select 10-15

Alverson had 30 assists as the Barracudas rolled over Gulf Coast Select.

Barracudas 25-25,

Pensacola Dream 12-13

Lewis’ five kills led a balanced attack against the Dream, which includes several members of PHS' state runner up basketball team.

Both Chapmans had three kills in the win, while Alverson had 20 assists and three digs. Cheyenne Chapman had five digs, while Hawthorne had four digs.

Barracudas 25-25,

Volleyball Pensacola 18-9

Cheyenne Chapman's five kills led a balanced attack as the Barracudas advanced to the championship game.

Lewis had four kills, while Caitlin Chapman, Taylor Sharp and Alverson all had three kills. Alverson also had 28 assists and eight digs. Hawthorne added nine kills, while Willoughby had five.

Mobile Storm 17-13

Alverson’s tournament-high 33 assists led the Barracudas to the championship in a battle of the two unbeatens.

Lewis had six kills, while Cheyenne Chapman had five. Caitlin Chapman had three kills and 13 digs, while Willoughby had six digs and nine assists.

The Barracudas were one of nine teams in their age division.

16s take second

The U16 team advanced to the championship match, losing to Eastern Shore Black 25-17, 25-19 in the title game.

The Barracudas beat Eastern Shore Blue 25-23, 25-17 in their opening match in pool play. They then beat Miracle Strip 25-22, 25-18 before beating Deep South from Dothan 25-10, 25-17.

14s play up, lose close three-game match in semis

The U14 National team, playing in the 15-under bracket, advanced to the semifinals before losing to Via 15 Kallie 24-26, 25-15, 17-15.

The 14s beat the PBVC U15 team 26-24, 25-16 in their first match before beating Dig It 25- 17, 25-16. They then split games with both Eastern Shore Blue and Via 15 Kallie. Eastern Shore won game one 25-22 before PBVC won game two 25-11. The Barracudas won game one against Via 15 Kallie 25-20 before winning game two 25-7.

U15 team

The U15s, after losing to the 14s, split a pair of games with Dig It. The U15s won game one 25-14, but lost game two 25-15.

The U15s lost to Eastern Shore Black 25-21, 25-15 before splitting a pair of games with Eastern Shore Blue. They lost game one 25-20 before winning game two 25-22.

U14 Regional team

goes 1-2-1

The U14 Regional team won one match, lost two and split a fourth match in pool play.

They started with a 25-11, 25-20 win over Pleasure Island Volleyball Club before splitting their match with Eastern Shore Black. PBVC won game one 25- 23, but lost game two 25-17.

The Barracudas lost to the Spikers 25-14, 25-11 before losing to NOVA 14s 25-16, 25-16.
