The Gulf Breeze Dolphin soccer team scored four goals in the first 23 minutes as they defeated Crawfordville Wakulla 4-0 in a Region 1-4A Quarterfinal match Friday night at Dolphin Stadium.

The match was to have been played Thursday, but inclement weather pushed it back a day, making it the second game of a playoff doubleheader Friday (see related story).

The Dolphins (16-5-3) wasted little time, scoring three minutes into the game. The War Eagles (9-9-2) were called for a hand ball just feet outside the penalty area. Jack Begley put away the free kick for the 1-0 lead.

Begley got pushed down in the Wakulla box moments later, but no foul was called. In the 16th minute, Begley made it 2-0 when he scored off a pass from the left side by Max McDaniel.

McDaniel scored his second goal of the game two minutes later, finishing off a pass from Hunter Hillis.

As has been the case for most of the season, Tyler Willets was in goal the first half and Hayes Sperry the second half.

Coach Bruce Savage emptied the bench in the second half, with Stephen Vernali, Chance Winn, Nick Green, Tom Lampone, Lucas Skinner, Neal Lacey and Patrick Flores playing most of the final 40 minutes.

The win marked the 16th consecutive year the Dolphins have won their regional tournament opener. They faced Choctaw, who beat Panama City Rutherford 6-0 Friday, in the regional semifinals Tuesday. Look for the score on gulfbreezenews.com and the story in the Feb. 18 issue of the Gulf Breeze News.
