The Dolphin soccer team won its fourth consecutive District 1-4A title with a 2-1 win over Choctaw Saturday at Washington. Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News The Gulf Breeze Dolphin soccer teams were pushed in both of their district tournament games at Washington last week, but were able to pull out both victories to claim their fourth straight District 1-4A title.

“They’re a tremendous team. We knew it would be a tough game,” coach Bruce Savage said after the Dolphins’ 2-1 win over Choctaw in the title game Saturday. The title game was pushed back a day because of weather.

Jack Begley’s penalty kick goal with 15 minutes left in the match was the difference as GBHS edged Choctaw.

The Indians had several runs on goal in the opening minutes, but didn't get a shot off on keeper Tyler Willets. GBHS' first scoring chance came off a Danny Gibble corner kick in the ninth minute, but a shot went wide.

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Willets made a leaping save on a shot outside the box in the 34th minute. A minute later, Cole Irwin put away a loose ball in the box after another Gibble corner.

The Indians would tie the game at 1 in the 49th minute on a corner that wasn’t cleared out by the defense.

GBHS took the lead for good, after a defender was ruled to have inadvertently hit the ball with his hand after a shot by Hunter Hillis.

The Dolphins host Crawfordville Wakulla tonight in a Region 1-4A quarterfinal. If GBHS were to win, and Choctaw were to win in Panama City against Rutherford, the Dolphins and Indians would meet again in the regional semifinals Tuesday at Dolphin Stadium.

Max McDaniel’s goal with three minutes left in the second overtime put the Dolphins into the title game.

The Tigers were awarded a penalty kick in the first half, but Willets made the save. In the 29th minute, Begley flicked a ball to Nick Green, who buried it to make it 1-0.

The Tigers’ Bobby McLaughlin was awarded a second half penalty kick, scoring off Sperry to tie it in the 60th minute.
