Girls soccer beats Niceville on Senior Night

Jason Thompson/ Gulf Breeze News The GBHS Lady Dolphin soccer team answered one of its worst showings of the year with one of its best, a 2-0 win over Niceville on Senior Night Thursday in Gulf Breeze.

GBHS entered the District 1- 4A Tournament this week as the top seed. They played Washington in the semifinals Wednesday (after the News’ deadline). The Lady Dolphins were shooting for their 18th straight playoff appearance Wednesday and their 12th straight district title Friday.

Niceville 0

Two of the six members of the Lady Dolphin Class of 2010 - Maggie Rodgers and Kristen Barona - scored goals in GBHS’ win over Niceville Thursday.

GBHS didn’t score until the final minute of the first half when Rodgers ripped a shot from about 25 yards out. She scored after fielding a pass from Barona.

Allison Carter made several aggressive plays in the first half, coming off her line several times to make sliding saves before Niceville attackers could put the ball on net.

Allison Proctor cleared out a dangerous ball in the 59th minute before GBHS put the game away in the 69th minute. Rodgers crossed a ball from the right side that found the foot of Barona.

Pace 2, Lady Dolphins 0

Gulf Breeze, playing without Takacs and a less-than-100 percent Rodgers (knee), lost at Pace on Jan. 12.

Haley Bohannon, Jenna Ceravolo and Caroline Gibble scored goals Thursday as the Lady Dolphin JV squad closed out their season with a win Thursday.

Bohannon and Gibble both scored goals in the junior varsity’s win over Pace Jan. 12.
