Shoreline Hotshots compete in Daytona

The Hotshots, a women's 6.5 combo tennis team from Shoreline Tennis, is in Daytona Beach this week for the United States Tennis Association section championships.

The tournament begins tomorrow, Jan. 8, and runs through Sunday, Jan. 10.

The Hotshots won the Pensacola USTA Adult Ladies 6.5 Combo Championships to qualify for the state event.

The team’s 11 members are Theresa Smith (Captain), Shelley Mangram, Wanda Chapman, Edith Brodie, Janet Mabry, Pam Hasell, Donna Siskind, Jackie Barclay, Maggie Wren,ShariScudder and Lani Spann.

The Hotshots won four of six matches in the local seven-team, doubles league to qualify for the section championship. The matches, which began in October, were played at sites in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.

In 6.5 combo competition, each doubles match features pairs comprised of a USTArated 3.0 player paired with a higher-level 3.5 player.

The Hotshots will be competing against 15 other 6.5 league champions from across the state.

They play in Flight 3.
