Ed Helms stars in “The Hangover” as one of the groomsmen who loses the groom during a bachelor’s party trip to Las Vegas. “The Hangover” (Two-Disc Unrated Edition) — “The Hangover” has become one of the year’s funniest films.

Four guys go to Vegas for a bachelor party they’ll “never forget” — but thanks to their drinks being laced with a daterape drug, that’s exactly what happens. They wake up the next morning and can’t remember a thing about the previous night.

To add to the muddle, they’ve misplaced the groom but gained a baby and a tiger. The guys have a scant few hours to piece together what happened, find the groom, return the baby and the tiger, and still get the groom to the church on time.

“Inglourious Basterds” — Director Quentin Tarantino’s World War II revenge fantasy may not be to everybody’s taste, but it is a beautifully shot, brilliantly acted film that will go down in film history as one of his best.

The film stars Brad Pitt as Aldo Raine, a soldier who assembles a crack squad of Jewish soldiers to go on a mission to execute the Nazi high command. On their way to completing their mission, each soldier is commanded to give Raine 100 “Gnatsi” scalps. And since this is a Tarantino film you can expect the usual ultraviolence, quotable dialogue and intertwining story lines.

The extras on both the twodisc and Blu-Ray editions are the same, and mighty impressive: extended and alternate scenes; “Nation’s Pride” (the film within the film); a roundtable discussion with Tarantino, Brad Pitt and critic Elvis Mitchell; a score of featurettes, including a conversation with Rod Taylor; and a digital copy of the film.

“Murder by Decree” — To cash in on the premiere of the new Sherlock Holmes film starring Robert Downey Jr., there are a plethora of Sherlock Holmes DVDs this week. Most of them are pretty lousy, but “Murder by Decree” is one you should take a look at — if not outright buy.

The 1979 film stars Christopher Plummer and James Mason as Holmes and Watson, respectively, and the game that is afoot? None other than Jack the Ripper. Also starring in the film are Donald Sutherland as a psychic and Sir John Gielgud as the prime minister. As a Holmes fan, I have to say this is one of my favorite Holmes movies (along with “The Seven-Percent Solution”).
