PollMedicare enrollment starts Following weeks of preparation, hundreds of counselors with Florida’s SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) program stand ready to provide free, unbiased assistance for Florida elders navigating the intricacies of Medicare’s important Annual Enrollment Period. Every year, Medicare beneficiaries have the opportunity to make changes to their Medicare Prescription Drug or Medicare Advantage Plans during the enrollment period. During the enrollment period, which begins on Sunday and runs through the end of the year, seniors can sign up for or change their Medicare coverage, including regular Medicare coverage and Part D prescription drug plans. SHINE, a program of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, provides information to help elders understand their insurance options, including Medicare. SHINE counselors can provide free, unbiased oneon one insurance counseling and community education regarding Medicare options and prescription drug assistance for elders, their families and caregivers. Those who need assistance are encouraged to contact the SHINE program by calling Florida’s Elder Helpline tollfree at 1-800-96-ELDER (1- 800-963-5337) and asking for a SHINE volunteer counselor. |
