SR Shores women get early scoop on holiday decorating

The Santa Rosa Shores Women’s Club held the November meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the lovely waterfront home of Donna Sutton on Harbor Lane. Hostesses for this social affair were Connie Repp, Rita Misenheimer and Margaret Cunningham. Judy Miller, program chairman, explained upcoming programs for the year.

The program for the evening was Holiday Tips. The group was shown how to use low-cost natural items found around the yard to make great Christmas decorations. The program also included shortcuts in food preparation and how to make handmade crafts.

Tuesday, Dec. 8 is the date set for Santa in the Park at Swenson Park. The gala event will include refreshments, gifts and an opportunity for each child to have a picture made with Santa.

Panhandle Tiger Bay Club

Guest speaker R. K. “Skip” Hunter will present “Florida’s Insurance Mess and What to Do About It” at the Nov. 20 meeting of the Panhandle Tiger Bay Club.

Hunter is an attorney, a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and was the Republican candidate for Insurance Commissioner and Treasurer of Florida in 1994.

After serving in the United States Navy, Hunter started as an agent for Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Co., opening his first office in Pensacola in 1963. In 1970, he became the president/CEO of American Fidelity Life Insurance Co. of Pensacola.

Hunter later purchased the American Life Assurance Co. and the First National Life Insurance Co., both of which specialized in Major Medical, Group and Medicare Supplement Insurance. The two companies were jointly headquartered in Pensacola and Montgomery, Ala., and employed over 350 people with sales handled through 6,600 independent agents in 37 states and the District of Columbia.

Hunter Hunter Hunter graduated from the University of Mississippi with a BBA, the American College in Bryn Mar, Pa., with a CLU, and the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, Faulkner University with a Juris Doctor. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1998.

The noon luncheon meeting will be held at Pensacola’s New World Landing. The public is invited to attend. Tickets are $35 for non-members. There is no charge for members.

GFWC Santa Rosa Woman’s Club

The Third Annual ‘Breezing Thru the Holidays’ hosted by the GFWC Santa Rosa Woman’s Club was a smashing success. The event was held at St. Ann Catholic Church Parish Hall on Thursday, Nov. 5. Cochairs Barbara Miksch and Jean Yuill, as well as many others, can feel a great sense of pride in the outcome of this venture. The hall was beautifully decorated with garland, wreaths and centerpieces to carry on the holiday theme, and Christmas tree ornaments were provided as table favors.

Allen/GBN Pat Landfair More than 200 people attended and were treated to sushi hors d’oeuvres by Fuji Steakhouse, music by Tim Spencer, a decorating demo by Emily Peterson, owner of The Garden Gate, and her co-worker, Carol Simpson, a silent auction of over 100 items donated by local merchants and sponsors, a scrumptious lunch by Elaine’s Catering, and a ‘Day to Night’ fashion show by Dillard’s.

Linda Dawson Linda Dawson Behind the scenes, the Firemen Explorers provided assistance with setting up for the gala; R.J. Salon/Spa did the hair and make-up for the models; Richey’s provided the wine; and Winn-Dixie and Firehouse Subs provided interim refreshments for the models.

Tracie McMahan, SRWC Vice-president, did an outstanding job narrating the fashion show. Many models were walking the runway and wearing the latest fashions. The women models wore three outfits; one casual, one business wear and one evening wear. Teen models showed one outfit each and then returned to school. Men models showed one outfit each and remained along the runway to assist with models throughout the show.

Models included Linda Dawson, SRWC President; Mollye Barrows, WEAR-TV anchor; Beverly Zimmern, Gulf Breeze Mayor; Ann Johnson, UWF professor; Vici Papajohn, co-publisher of ‘Gulf Breeze News;’ Betty Archer Allen, columnist for ‘Gulf Breeze News;’ Tracey Pinkston, MD Internal Medicine, and daughter, Lauren; Cheri Johnson and Debbie Weaver, Hair Designers at 10th Ave Hair Design; and Shelley Elbert, Dot Jordan and Pat Landfair, community leaders.

Mollye Barrows Mollye Barrows Teen models were Lindsey Hawthorne, Kasey Landfair and Sallie Papajohn. Four handsome male models including firefighters Kyle Saxton and Travis White, and Police officers Andy Johnson and Greg Baker wearing ensembles provided by The Men’s Wearhouse.

‘Breezing thru the Holidays’ grossed $10,506. Nearly $8,000 of this amount will go to support club projects such as Covenant Hospice, girls’ sports programs, Good Samaritan Clinic, Little Red Schoolhouse, PJC scholarships, Santa Rosa County Caring & Sharing.
