The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin soccer team split a pair of matches to open the 2009 season last week. Gulf Breeze beat Pensacola High 4-1 before losing 2-1 at Panama City Mosley.

Lady Dolphins 4, PHS 1

Maggie Rodgers scored a pair of goals to lead Gulf Breeze to a season-opening win Nov. 4 at Brosnaham Park.

Kristen Barona scored the game’s first goal, unassisted, with about 15 minutes left in the first half. The score was 1-0 at the half.

Rodgers then scored twice in a five minute span of the second half. Sammy Welsh set up the first goal, while Cori Snyder got the helper on the second.

Rodgers was looking for the hat trick when she put a shot off the crossbar with eight minutes left. Kayla Vlachos put in the rebound to make it 4-0.

The Lady Tigers spoiled the shutout bid with a penalty kick goal with five minutes left.

Allison Carter had three saves in the win.

Panama City Mosley 2,

Lady Dolphins 1

Laura Harpole’s second half goal got Gulf Breeze within one, but the Lady Dolphins couldn’t score the equalizer Friday in Panama City.

Mosley, who beat GBHS 3-0 last season, led 2-0 at the half.

The Lady Dolphins played the match without starting defender and team captain Bianca Takacs, who was playing with the Dolphin football team.

The junior varsity team got a hat trick from Jenna Ceravolo in an 8-0 win over PHS. The Lady Dolphin JV tied Mosley 1-1.

Gulf Breeze will take on Catholic tonight at Brosnaham Park. The JV plays at 5:30, followed by the varsity at 7:30.
