Rotary Club will feed you, wash your car

The Gulf Breeze Rotary Club continues its good work for the community. The club is helping sponsor a Pancake Breakfast and Car Wash that supports the food-drive efforts of Interfaith Ministry and Collecting Pennies.

The Pancake Breakfast and Car Wash is Saturday, Nov. 14 from 7 a m. to 10:30 a m. at City Hall, 1070 Shoreline Drive. The cost for both a plate of pancakes and car wash is $10. All proceeds will benefit Junior Achievement.

Call City Manager Buz Eddy at 934-5115 to buy tickets.

Once again, Rotary will also be supporting the food-drive efforts of Interfaith Ministry of Gulf Breeze. Rotarians are donating food bags from their weekly Tuesday morning meetings at Andrews Institute, including this week’s meeting and the Nov. 17 gathering.

Rotarians are handing out collection cans for Pennies for Rotary. The collected monies will go to ARC Gateway programs. The public is invited to join the collecting through the end of December. Please contact Van Hibberts if you would like a can or have questions at van@sitepro.us.

The Emerald Coast Regional Mustang Club and the St. Sylvester Catholic Church Columbiettes are holding a Show n Shine car show, a Sock Hop and a Food Drive on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6464 Gulf Breeze Parkway near Holley by the Sea. They also will be accepting used cell phones for the Help Them Call Home Project.

The “Feed the Coast 2009” Car Show will be from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Admission to the car show is five cans of food, which will be donated to Interfaith Ministry. Goody bags will be given to the first 100 Show n Shine registrants. A 6-foot trophy will be given to the individual or group that brings the most non-perishable food. Two additional Father’s choice awards will be awarded at 3:30 p.m. Entry into the car show will also provide free entry to the Sock Hop.

Darlene and Don Richards were given a Nina Fritz watercolor of Pensacola Beach and by the Board of Directors of Santa Rosa Shores Homeowners Association. The Sock Hop will be from 5 to 9:30 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for a 1950s Sock Hop (greaser or preppie). Wear your craziest socks and you might win a prize.

Admission to the Sock Hop and dinner (hamburgers, hot dogs and chips) is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 14. There will be games, contests and prizes for the entire family.

Council on Aging of West Florida

Local authors Kathleen Vestal Logan and E. L. (Betsy) Smith, Ph.D., will host book launch and signing reception to benefit the Council on Aging of West Florida. These writers will introduce their new book, ‘Second Blooming for Women: Growing a Life That Matters After Fifty,’ as a fundraiser to benefit Council on Aging of West Florida.

In the book, which follows a garden theme, the authors coach women step-by-step to consciously and purposefully plan their future through guided reflection, personal assessments and action plans. The book presents specific strategies for creating a ‘second life’ that provides women personal fulfillment while making valuable contributions to their community.

The event will be Tuesday, Nov.17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pensacola Yacht Club. The public is invited to attend the free event. Twenty percent of book sales from the evening will be donated to Council on Aging of West Florida.
