Approximately an hour later, a Pensacola man was critically injured and a Gulf Breeze teenager sustained serious injuries Monday evening in a violent two-vehicle crash at U.S. Highway 98 and Sanibel Lane just east of Gulf Breeze.
Jerry Miller, 80, of Pensacola was exiting Sanibel Lane southbound in a 2000 GMC van when he failed to yield to westbound driver Adam Gary, 17, of Gulf Breeze. Gary’s 1999 Chevrolet truck slammed into the driver’s side of Miller’s van, and the impact sent the van across the eastbound lanes of U.S. 98 before it came to rest on the shoulder.
Miller was extricated from the vehicle by responders from Midway Fire District and transported to a local hospital via Life Flight. Gary was transported to a hospital via ambulance.
Charges were pending as the FHP continued its investigation Tuesday. Both sides of U.S. 98 were closed for more than an hour as the wreckage was cleared.
