Dolphins look to right ship with upset

Girls golf wins FCA; boys third

      For the second time in as many weeks, the Lady Dolphin golf team has won a tournament, the most recent being the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament Sept. 22 at A.C. Read. The boys team the day before finished third. The Lady Dolphins won the 12 team tournament with a team score of 333. Niceville was second (347), followed by Catholic (372) and Fort Walton (360).

Volleyball team wins pair in district
      The Lady Dolphins won a pair of district matches last week in three games to prepare for their big non-district matchup with Catholic (played after the News' deadline). Lady Dolphins 25-25-25, PHS 10-13-20 The Lady Tigers hung tough in game 3 on Sept. 22, but GBHS was able to pull out the three-game sweep.

'74 Dolphins rally to beat Jay 20-14
      The 1974 Dolphins got three touchdown runs by Kenneth Hardy for a 20-14, come-from-behind win at Jay. Hardy's first score came from five yards out before the Royals took an 8-6 halftime lead. A 26-yard run by Tony Barberi set up a two-yard score for Hardy that gave GBHS the lead for good. He later scored on a 45-yard run, with Bobby Lord scoring the two-point conversion.

Dolphin JV, ninth graders stay unbeaten
      The GBHS junior varsity and ninth grade football teams remained unbeaten on the season with a 36-15 win over West Florida Thursday at Woodham Middle School. The Jags, going up against the Dolphins' junior varsity defense, went 67 yards in only four plays to score the game's first points. The point after made it 7-0 West Florida with 8:32 left in the first quarter.

Sakey returns to tennis court for Central Florida
Epstein, Pyle record first collegiate points for Huntingdon, North Florida
      Brock Sakey (GBHS Class of 2005), playing in his first tennis matches for Central Florida since an back injury in February ended his spring 2009 season, won a pair of singles matches at the Southern Intercollegiates Sept. 18-19 at the University of Georgia.

GB White Mites beat Brewton, 22-7
      The Gulf Breeze White Mites got back on the winning track Saturday, beating Brewton 22-7. Unfortunately for Gulf Breeze, it'd be their only win on Saturday. GBSA did have some close calls, but Albritton and Gant was able to go 5-0 against the Dolphins.

TP midgets, juniors roll to easy wins
      Editorial Note: The following came from coaches submissions Tiger Point juniors had multiple players score in a 50-20 rout of NEP Saturday. The first score came in less than a minute when Mitchell Robbins scored on a five yard plunge into the end zone. Chandler Foxworth added the extra point for a Tiger Point lead of 8-0.

Meeting hero a milestone for Gulf Breeze youth
     Brian Joyner of Gulf Breeze met his hero, University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, in July while attending a baseball camp in Gainesville. Tebow took the time to talk to Brian and about 15 fans, have his picture made and sign autographs. Tebow suffered a concussion in last week's victory against Kentucky but hopes to play next Saturday against LSU in Baton Rouge. Submitted photo
