      Retired Maj. George Richard Mathews III, 76, formerly of Gulf Breeze and most recently a resident of Enterprise, Ala., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22 surrounded by his wife and his three children. Mathews was born in Miami on Jan. 11, 1933 to the late George R. and Irene Mathews. He was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and spent most of his career as a C-130 navigator.

      Anne Katherine Bray Oerting, 85, of Gulf Breeze, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Oerting was born March 9, 1924 and was very talented. In 1957, she originated the name "Scenic Hills" for the Scenic Hills Golf and Country Club.
