Tyner still enjoying islands; Ford wins car
Remember Chloe Tyner, the woman who is spending her third year working in the Caribbean for about four weeks? Where is she?
We know that she was still on St John's Island in July and having a wonderful time. Her daughter, Caitlin, joined her for a week on St. John's, and the company increased Tyner's enjoyment two-fold. On Aug. 2, the girls went to Vieques, Puerto Rico for a few days.
We also know that Tyner visited Anegade, British Virgin Islands, sometime in July and played happily on Cow Wreck Beach. It took her three hours to get from St. John's to Anegada by ferry.
Anegada is one of the lesser known British Virgin Islands. It is small and extremely flat; most of the island is only 7 feet above sea level; the high level being only 28 feet above sea level. Anegada is the only one of the Virgin Islands that is a coral atoll, which is an island created by the build-up of sand on coral. It is surrounded by one of the largest barrier reefs in the Caribbean.
One of the interesting things is that there are several artesian freshwater springs on the island.
Vici Papajohn/Gulf Breeze News State Rep. Clay Ford (left) of Gulf Breeze reacts as he learns he won the Smart Car being raffled by the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club to raise college scholarship dollars. "Everyone I met on Anegada is friendly, helpful, kind and gracious," Tyner said. "This is definitely an island that I would like to return to again."
Tyner has extended her stay in Caribbean through Aug. 21. Maybe we'll hear more about her in September.

Gulf Breeze Rotary Club
The Gulf Breeze Rotary meeting of Aug. 4 featured a 'Choose Pensacola' presentation, given by Lisa Long of Cox Media. Long was marketing director of the 2009 Leadership Pensacola 2009 Class Project. The plan served as a personal marketing tool with an emphasis on driving economic development. The product is housed on www.choosepensacola.com and is being marketed in 17 states.
Long explained how the project is still promoting the area.
"We use the Pensacola name, but it is focused on promoting Northwest Florida," Long said.
She further explained that the project gained over $300,000 in monetary or inkind services and the how the area has become better known. 'Choose Pensacola' has Web sites composed of a promotional video, numerous testimonial videos and relocation information that can be explored by individuals.
Through this project, billboards, radio spots, web banners, newspaper ads, and TV commercials have been shown nationwide. 'Choose Pensacola' has a presence on Facebook.
