GB Middle School sets Orientation for Aug. 20
      Gulf Breeze Middle School will have its Orientation for new students (sixth-graders and transfers) on Thursday, Aug. 20 between 9 and 11 a.m. Students can "drop in" to pick up their schedules, meet the teachers, find their classrooms, buy P.E. uniforms, order yearbooks, and parents can join our Parent Teacher Organization.

LSU student sendoff
      The Panhandle Bayou Bengals will host a LSU student send-off party Sunday, Aug. 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Jerry's Cajun Cafe', 6205 North 9th Avenue in Pensacola. A Cajun buffet will be served. Cost is free for incoming LSU Freshmen, current LSU students and special guests. For others, the cost is $10 a person.

County GOP to meet
      The Republican Club of Santa Rosa County will hold its next monthly meeting and Dutch Treat Dinner at The Club at Hidden Creek, 3070 PGA Boulevard in Navarre at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Guest speaker will be state Rep. Clay Ford of Gulf Breeze, who will talk about the issues that face the citizens of Northwest Florida in the legislative session for the coming year.

Carmichael earns top photo honor
      Several Gulf Breeze residents earned awards in the 2009 Power of Photography contest sponsored by the Wide Angle Photo Club, Inc. Kim Carmichael of Gulf Breeze captured the coveted Best of Show award for her photograph titled 'Portrait of a Youth.' The same work earned first place in the People category and second place in the Best Portrait category.

Thomas, Feagle feted at Pensacola NAS
      A Hail and Farewell party was held Thursday, July 16 at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Officers' Club where the group hailed Cmdr. Greg Thomas and said farewell to Cmdr. Jerry Feagles. The Executive Officer is the principal deputy to the Commanding Officer of the Naval Air Station Pensacola.

      A priority at the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club is funding and continuing the Annual Rotary Scholarship Program. Gulf Breeze Rotary has granted over $300,000 to nearly 100 Gulf Breeze High School graduates over the years.

Gator-hunting classes offered
      The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering alligator hunters no-cost, three-hour classes to help them prepare for the Aug. 15 - Nov. 1 statewide alligator harvest. Reservations are not required to attend a class.
