GBSA 9s take second at state
      The Gulf Breeze 9-under All Stars finished second at the Florida Dizzy Dean State Tournament July 1 at Seminole Park in Largo. Gulf Breeze, who had lost to eventual champion Northwest St. Pete 9-7, were leading Bill Bond 11-0 when the rains came.

      Chip Holston has been known for a lot of things - from being an Olympic bobsledder to a world record powerlifter.       Two Gulf Breeze High School golfers, Sarah Hicks and Ashleigh Ryals, are competing for a spot in the Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. The pair is representing The First Tee of Northwest Florida at the five-day selection process, which began on Tuesday, at Wentworth By the Sea Country Club in Rye, N.H.

Pair of archery hunts slated for later this year
      There's some special deer and wild hog hunts in Northwest Florida at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and a unique hunt that occurs on the island of St. Vincent NWR. There are two archery hunts, two general gun hunts and one mobility-impaired gun hunt on the St. Marks NWR, which covers 60,000 acres in Wakulla, Jefferson and Taylor counties.

Lady Dolphins drop first game of summer
      The GBHS Lady Dolphin softball team gave up six runs with two outs in the bottom of the first as Milton beat Gulf Breeze 9-4 in summer league action June 30. It was GBHS' first loss of the summer after four straight wins.

Mixed results for Dolphin baseball as summer league ends
      The Gulf Breeze Dolphin baseball team had some mixed results in the final week of summer league action. GBHS was held to just one hit, a single by Adam Gary in the third inning, in a 6-0 loss to Catholic on June 29. The Dolphins split a doubleheader with Milton the following day. The Panthers won game one 6-0, while GBHS won the nightcap 6-4.
