Tiger Point 8s finish third
      Bella Brindley's run-scoring triple capped off a seven-run sixth inning as Gulf Breeze's 8-under All Star softball team rallied from 10-3 down Thursday to beat Pace Red 13-12 and win the Northwest Florida Girls Softball Alliance's postseason tournament for the second consecutive year.

      The Gulf Breeze 6-under All Stars won the Dizzy Dean District Tournament last weekend in Perdido. They beat Tiger Point in the championship game. Gulf Breeze 22, Tiger Point 0 The Dolphins blanked Tiger Point in 3 ½ innings behind a stellar defensive effort and excellent hitting.

Brunty, USM's runs comes to end
      Kameron Brunty (GBHS Class of 2008) and his Southern Miss teammates' magical postseason run ended Tuesday as they were eliminated 11-4 by North Carolina at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. Batting third and playing left field, Brunty went 0-for-4 against the Tar Heels.

deKozan new boys basketball coach
      Von deKozan, a year after guiding the Dolphins' ninth grade basketball team to a 13-1 mark, was promoted last week to the varsity coaching slot vacated by David McGreal, whose teaching position wasn't retained due to budget cuts.

Racquet Roundup reminds me of another tennis roundup years ago
      Last week, volunteers from the Pensacola Sports Association came to Shoreline Park to hold a free tennis clinic, Racquet Roundup, for over 190 6-12 year olds. For three days, June 10-12, the kids participated in fun drills and other activities under their guidance.

Gulf Breeze hosts Dizzy Dean District Tournaments
      Shoreline Park was the site this week for five age groups in the Dizzy Dean District Tournament. As of press time, GBSA's 10-under All Stars were the only ones still in the running for a championship.

'04 Dolphin JV baseball team wins USSSA National Qualifier
      The 2004 GBHS junior varsity baseball team won a USSSA National Qualifier Tournament, which was played in Milton and Pace. The Dolphins, after losing to a Mississippi based team 7-4 in their opening game, beat them 3-2 in the championship game.

Softball team wins summer openers; Baseball team splits with Navarre
      The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin softball team started its summer league action with wins over Escambia and West Florida June 9 at Escambia. Lady Dolphins 6, Escambia 3: Gulf Breeze broke a 3-3 tie with three in the bottom of the fourth to beat Escambia.
