Class of '09 earns $7.4M in scholarships

The Gulf Breeze High Class of 2009 raked in more than $7.4 million in scholarships, it was announced during their GBHS Senior Awards banquet last week.

More than 60 percent of the senior class (344 members) received one or more scholarships recognizing their outstanding achievements during high school. Included in that group are the following:

Lisa Aguado has received a scholarship from the University of South Alabama totaling $10,000. She plans on attending the University of South Alabama. She also was awarded the Courtney Matthews Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $100.

Natalie Alverson plans on attending PJC. She also was awarded the Jenni Lawrence Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Lauren Amberson has received scholarships from the University of Northern Colorado, Ball State University, the University of Oklahoma, Point Park University, Florida State University and the University of Central Florida totaling $129,400. She plans on attending the University of Central Florida.

Angelo Anastopoulo plans on attending Florida State University. He was also awarded the Nelson Roltsch Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Arden Armbruster has received scholarships from University of Memphis, Columbus State and Roosevelt University in the amount of $156,000. She plans on attending the University of Memphis.

Morgan Arnett has received scholarships from the University of West Florida totaling $12,000. She plans on attending UWF.


Tobie Bass has received the Alec Kessler Memorial Scholarship totaling $2,500. She plans on attending PJC.

Amanda Bennett has received a scholarship from Louisiana State University totaling $13,949. She plans on attending the University of Florida.

Derek Blythe has received a scholarship from UWF totaling $12,000. He plans on attending UWF.

William Bramlett has received scholarships from UWF and the University of South Alabama totaling $24,200. He plans on attending the University of Central Florida.

Kelsey Bray has received a scholarship from the University of Alabama totaling $7,200. She plans on attending the University of Alabama.

Madelyn Buxton has received a scholarship from the Savannah College of Art and Design totaling $26,000. She plans on attending Savannah College of Art and Design.

West Calhoun has received a scholarship from UWF totaling $6,000. He plans on attending UWF.

Alexandrea Castanon has received a scholarship from the Optimist Club totaling $1,000. She plans on attending PJC. She also was awarded Sarah Brown Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Benjamin Cunningham has been awarded a scholarship from the University of Central Florida totaling $12,000. He plans on attending UCF.

Aubrey Curington has received scholarships from Mississippi State University totaling $13,000. She plans on attending Mississippi State University.

Stephanie Davis plans on attending UWF. She was awarded the Conrad Owens Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $200.

Chloe Diehl has received scholarships from Stetson University totaling $16,575. She plans on attending Stetson University.

Liesl Drew has received scholarships from the Marine Corps, University of South Florida, Rollins College and UWF totaling $21, 500. She plans on attending the University of Florida.

Alexander Duntz has received scholarships from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University totaling $23,837. He plans on attending Embry Riddle. He was also awarded the Jenni Lawrence Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Colleen Eastburn has received scholarships from Jacksonville University and UWF totaling $58,000. She plans on attending the University of Florida.

Celia Eddy has received scholarships from Elon College totaling $198,028. She plans on attending Elon College.

Joshua Epstein has received a scholarship from Huntingdon College totaling $10,000. He plans on attending Huntingdon College. He was also awarded the Lawrence Kimble Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Thomas Farmer has received scholarships from the University of Miami, Tulane University, Auburn University, Mississippi State and the University of South Florida totaling $506,540. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

John Foryt has received a scholarship from the University of Notre Dame. He plans on attending Notre Dame.

Paul Foryt has received scholarships from the University of Notre Dame. He plans on attending Notre Dame. He was also awarded the Social Studies Department plaque.

Elise Fromularo has received a scholarship from the Louisiana State University totaling $4,357. She plans on attending the University of North Florida.

Kelsey Frost has received a scholarship from Birmingham Southern College and the University of West Florida, totaling $62,000. She plans on attending the University of Florida. She was also awarded a plaque for serving as an editor of the Blue and Gold newspaper this year.

Timothy Gibbs has received scholarships from Kings College New York and the University of South Florida totaling $68,000. He plans on attending the University of South Florida.

Travis Gill has received a scholarship from the University of West Florida totaling $6,000. He plans on attending UWF.

Alianna Gilmartin has received scholarships from Spring Hill College and the University of West Florida totaling $94,000. She plans on attending UWF.

Nicholas Graham has received scholarships from Florida Atlantic University totaling $32,498. He plans on attending Florida Atlantic University.

Julia Green has received scholarships from art and music associations totaling $1,250. She plans on attending the University of West Florida.

Amanda Greene plans on attending Florida State University. She also was awarded the Santa Rosa County for Teachers of Mathematics plaque.

Ryan Henderson has received scholarships from the University of Miami, Colorado School of Mines and Georgia Tech totaling $174,000. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

Cory Hogue has received a scholarship from the University of West Florida, totaling $6,000. He plans on attending UWF.

Andreas Hudson has received a scholarship from University of South Florida totaling $4,000. He plans on attending the University of South Florida.

Hailey Jarrett has received scholarships from UWF & PJC totaling $20,000. She plans on attending the University of Central Florida.

Alicia Jeffrey has received scholarships from the University of South Florida and the University of Maryland totaling $44,000. She plans on attending the University of Florida. She was also awarded a plaque for serving as an editor of the Blue and Gold newspaper this year.

Joshua Jurnovoy has received scholarships from Tulane and University of South Florida totaling $106,000. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

Andrew Kasabian has received scholarships from Patrick Henry College and Randolph Macon College totaling $116,500. He plans on attending the University of Mary Washington.

Thomas Kasabian has received scholarships from the University of Mary Washington, Patrick Henry College, Randolph Macon College, totaling $124,500. He plans on attending the University of Mary Washington.

Megan Keene has received scholarships from Troy University, Auburn University totaling $124,000. She plans on attending Florida Atlantic University.

Ryan Kent has received scholarships from Florida Institute of Technology and the University of South Florida totaling $82,500. He plans on attending the University of South Florida.

Adam Kersch has received a scholarship from the University of Central Florida in the amount of $5,200. He plans on attending UCF.

Samuel Kladitis has been awarded an army scholarship in the amount of $63,560. Sam will join the Army upon graduation.

Jessica Majewski has received scholarships from the University of West Florida. She plans on attending UWF. She was also awarded the Reid Lightfoot Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.

William McCormick has received scholarships from the University of Alabama, Tulane University, Kings College, the Rotary Club and Elks Club totaling $237,500. He plans on attending the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He was also awarded the Student Council Leadership Award.

Carl McDaris has received a scholarship in the amount of $225. He plans on attending UWF.

Lauren McDonald has received a scholarship from Georgia Institute of Technology totaling $10,000. She plans on attending Georgia Institute of Technology.

Julie Miller has received scholarships from the University of West Florida and University of Tampa totaling $57,348. She plans on attending the University of Tampa.

Zoë Miller has received scholarships from the University of Tampa, Gonzaga University, Seattle University totaling $117,348. She plans on attending the University of Tampa.

Jordan Monahan has received a scholarship from University of Central Florida in the amount of $8,000. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

Kelsey Moran has received scholarships from Rollins College, Tulane University, the University of Miami, George Washington University, Rhodes College, Optimist International, Sam Walton Community Scholarships and Supply Corps totaling $627,860. She plans on attending Tulane University.

Jessica Morgan has received scholarships from the University of Alabama totaling $57,200. She plans on attending the University of Alabama.

Sarah Munsch has received scholarships from Tulane University, Solutia, Auburn University and University of Alabama totaling $107,000. She plans on attending Tulane University.

Noah Nichols has received scholarships from Florida State University and numerous grants totaling $43,264. He plans on attending Florida State University where he will enter his third year of his Bachelor's/Masters program in mechanical engineering.

Neila Nicholson has received scholarships from the University of South Alabama totaling $11,000. She plans on attending the University of South Alabama.

Alexandria Ortiz has received a scholarship from PJC totaling $300. She plans on attending Pensacola Junior College. She was also awarded the Sarah Brown Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Grace Papajohn has received scholarships from Florida State University and Louisiana State University totaling $44,456. She plans on attending Louisiana State University.

Elizabeth Patterson has received a scholarship from Sewanee University of the South totaling $54,000. She plans on attending Sewanee University.

Jordan Carr Peterson plans on attending PJC. She was awarded the Courtney Matthews Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $100, as well as a plaque for serving as an editor of the Blue and Gold newspaper this year.

Andrew Quadrini has been awarded scholarships from Tulane University, Auburn and the University of South Florida totaling $157,000. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

Zoë Rayor has received a scholarship from New College of Florida totaling $6,127. She plans on attending New College of Florida.

Stephen Schmitz has received a scholarship from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University totaling $16,000. He plans on attending Embry Riddle.

Kyle Schnackenberg has received scholarships from the Rotary Club and Optimist Clubs totaling $7,000. He plans on attending the University of Central Florida.

Koren Schroeder has received scholarships from the University of Central Florida, and the University of South Florida totaling $20,000. She plans on attending the University of Florida.

KayLyn Sessions has received a scholarship from the University of West Florida totaling $6,000. She plans on attending UWF.

Tiffany Sharar was awarded the Science Department plaque.

Gregory Shows has received a scholarship from 21st Century totaling $8,000. He plans on attending Florida State University.

Daniel Shull has received scholarships from the University of West Florida, Auburn University, the Society of American Military Engineers and the Alec Kessler Memorial Scholarship, totaling $ 56,520. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

Alyssa Smith has received scholarships from the University of Mississippi totaling $67,000. She plans on attending the University of Mississippi.

Olivia Smith was awarded the Courtney Matthews Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $100, as well as a plaque for serving as an editor of the Blue and Gold newspaper this year.

Rebecca Smith has received scholarships from the Voices of Democracy and from the University of West Florida totaling $9,250. She plans on attending the University of West Florida.

Timothy Stuhldreher was awarded the Mary Jane Jones Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $250.

Alexis Sydow has received scholarships from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Georgia totaling $167,248. She plans on attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was also awarded the English Department plaque.

David Teschel has received a scholarship from the University of Central Florida totaling $8,000. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

Davis Thomas has received scholarships from the University of South Florida totaling $12,500. He plans on attending the University of South Florida.

Brandon Timmons has received scholarships from the Boston Conservatory, Emerson University, Point Park Conservatory and the University of Central Florida totaling $128,000. He plans on attending the Boston Conservatory.

Brandon Van Camp has received scholarships from Huntingdon College totaling $44,000. He plans on attending Huntingdon College.

Jessica Vickrey has received a scholarship from Florida Atlantic University totaling $8,000. She plans on attending Florida Atlantic University.

Caitlin Violette has received a scholarship from the University of South Florida totaling $6,000. She plans on attending Florida State University.

Victoria Wagner has received a scholarship from the University of South Florida totaling $6,000. She plans on attending the University of South Florida.

Patrick Wetzel has received $80,000 in scholarships from the U.S. Marine Corps. He will join the Marines upon graduation.

Brittany Wheeler received scholarships from the Key Club, Samford, Florida Southern College, Birmingham Southern, and the University of North Florida totaling $242,000. She plans on attending Birmingham Southern. She also received the Student Council Scholarship in the amount of $250.

Dustin White has received scholarships from Florida Engineering Society and the Rotary Club totaling $7,250. He plans on attending the University of Florida.

Lyndsey Wright is planning on attending the University of Florida. She was also awarded the National Honor Society Dolphin Chapter Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Alexander York has received scholarships from the University of Central Florida and the University of Florida totaling $6,000. He plans on attending the University of Central Florida and was also awarded the Mathematics Department plaque.

Zachary Ziglioli has received scholarships totaling $4,000. He plans on attending the University of West Florida.
