Navarre Garden Club plans show

The Navarre Garden Club will sponsor its annual flower show entitled "Celebration" at the Navarre Visitor Center on June 3-4. The club has advanced this year's flower show from Small-Standard" Show to a Standard Flower Show.

Garden Club members are invited to submit their entries in any of three divisions - horticulture, floral design or special exhibits. Each of these divisions contains a number of sub-categories.

The show will be judged by officials from the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Judging will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. Following judges' decisions, the show will be opened for public viewing from 3-5 on Wednesday and from 10-4 Thursday.

Council on Aging of West Florida

The Council on Aging of West Florida will host An Evening Roast of John B. Clark on June 4 to celebrate Clark's 35 years as president/CEO and pay tribute to his leadership in the community. The public is invited to be a part of honoring Clark's contributions to the Council and the community at 6:30 p.m. at New World Landing. Rev. Jack Gray will serve as Master of Ceremonies, and Clark will be roasted by Sue Straughn, Dee Dee Ritchie, Keith Gregory, Glenda Triemer and Secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs Douglas Beach, Ph.D.

The Roast will also serve as the major 2009 fundraiser for the Council. Proceeds will enable the Council to provide the ever-growing senior population, their caregivers and the community with the quality care they deserve.

The cost is $50 per person. Paper tickets will not be issued. Reservations and payment must be made online at www.coawfla.org.

Gulf Isle Neighbors' (GIN) last luncheon of the fiscal year was held May 13. The agenda included the president's reminisces of the achievements of the last year, donating the proceeds from their fundraising to the designated charities and installing the 2009-10 Executive Board.

President Nell Servold talked of the many accomplishments of the club for the preceding year and the wonderful assistance she had received from the Board. The charities that GIN championed this year included the Butterfly House, the Emerald Coast Honor Flight, Children's Home society and Alzheimer's Family services. Representatives were present to give an overview of their non-profit organization and to receive GIN's donations.

Peggy Gray gave a short review of the Panhandle Butterfly House and the mission and objectives. The House is open to the public from May until Labor Day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Group tours are available by appointment on Monday through Wednesday.

The new officers were installed and each given a bouquet of flowers. The 2009-10 officers for Gulf Isle Neighbors are Bev Ishol, Treasurer; Marge Cumpston, Secretary; Jackye Jensen, Vice President; and Joanie Bolton, President.

Santa Rosa Woman's Club

The Santa Rosa Woman's Club held its monthly meeting at Hunt Hall on Pensacola Beach on Tuesday, May 5. The agenda was to take care of business, welcome a new member and guest and install a new board.

Renae Moyers, sponsored by Lolly Sandfort, was installed as a new member, and Rose Jenkins presented her with a Rose, name tag and yearbook. Alma Dearth brought Kim Burkett as a guest. The decorations for the luncheon/meeting used the Cinco de Mayo as the theme.

Recording Secretary Tracie McMahan reported on the club members' awards won at the state convention: Barbara Gonshor 1st Place for Short Story; Tracie McMahan, District 1 LEADS; 1st Place Outstanding Fundraising Project Award; 3rd Place Outstanding Accomplishment for President Project, Heifer, 3rd Place Outstanding Accomplishment for Arts and Creative Art; Florida Honor Score of over 100 Points; District 1 was awarded for Outstanding Presidents Project and received a large plaque that will be shared with each club in the district.

Sue Sinco reported on Interfaith Ministries: They have collected over 331 pounds of food items but could use more volunteers. Interfaith plans a large garage sale the first week in June. JoAnn Price discussed Little Red School House and the Ribbon cutting on May 6 that was sponsored by the Gulf Breeze and Navarre Chambers of Commerce. The hours will be from 3 to 5 on Mondays and Wednesdays. The start date should be Aug. 17 and 19.

The Marion Ginn held the installation ceremony for SRWC's 2009 and 2010 New Board. They are; President, Linda Dawson; President Elect Tracie McMahan; 1st VP Barbara Miksch and Jean Yuill, 2nd VP Mary Woodward; Treasurer, Anna Campbell; Recording Secretary. Berni Findley; and Corresponding Secretary, Lolly Sandfort.
