PollJESSIE M. JONES
1918-2009
Jessie Mason "Macy" Jones, 91, a lifelong resident of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, passed away Friday, May 15 in Pensacola. Jones was born in Pine Barren on April 19, 1918, the daughter of Murdock Baker and Gasque Ward. Her mother moved the family to Pensacola in 1926. It was there that she eventually met her husband, Ben Jones, who was stationed at Pensacola NAS. They were married July 3, 1940. The Navy took them to a number of places until her husband's retirement in 1953. The family eventually moved to Gulf Breeze in 1956, even before it was incorporated as a city. She remained here until 2004 when her health necessitated that she move into assisted living in Pensacola. Jones was a devoted full-time mother and homemaker and never worked outside of the home - one of the last of a vanishing breed. She had very strong religious beliefs and convictions to which she remained faithful to the end. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ben Jones, in 1992. She is survived by her children: Ron Jones of Richardson, Texas, Joel Jones of Missoula, Mont., Susan Edwards of Austin, Texas, Steve Jones of McDavid, Jaynie Osterhous of Waltham, Mass., and Lisa Risack of Bridgewater, N.J.; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, May 19 at the Rose Lawn Chapel in Gulf Breeze and officiated over by Rev. Jimmy Blackmon of the Pensacola Boulevard Church of Christ in Pensacola. Jones was laid to rest next to her husband at Rose Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze.
