PollNavarre Beach Pier construction to begin

The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners, Ed Waters and Sons Contracting Co., and PBS&J will celebrate the progress of construction of the much-awaited new Navarre Beach Pier at 1:30 p.m. today, May 28. The event will take place at the new Navarre Beach Pier construction site located at 8704 Gulf Boulevard on Navarre Beach. The public is invited to attend the event, which will feature the setting of the pier's No. 2 pile cap. In addition, all attendees will be invited to be a part of a photo, which will be permanently displayed upon completion of the project. The photo will serve as a symbol of the resilience of Santa Rosa County residents and the historic recovery process after hurricanes Ivan and Dennis. St. Ann hosts blood drive The Northwest Florida Bloodmobile will be at St. Ann Sunday, May 31 in the Family Life Center Gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will host a rummage sale in the St. Ann parish hall from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 6. St. Ann's vacation Bible School 2009 is themed "Discovery Canyon: Explore the Wonders of the World" and will take place August 10 - 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Local GOP club to meet The Republican Club of Santa Rosa County will hold its next monthly meeting and Dutch Treat Dinner at The Club at Hidden Creek, 3070 PGA Boulevard in Navarre, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. Guest speaker will be Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser Greg Brown, who will share his insights for the current status of the Property Appraiser's Office as well as his vision for the future of Santa Rosa County. Dr. Cole honored At its annual meeting in April, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama gave special recognition to physicians who have been in practice for 50 years. Among them was David O. Cole Sr., MD, of Gulf Breeze. Cole is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and did his residency training at the University of Florida, Shands Teaching Hospital. He was in general practice in Brookhaven, Miss., for three years, and in 1972 located to Selma where he practiced diagnostic radiology for 25 years. Class of '79 plans reunion Attention all Gulf Breeze High School 1979 alumni. The class will celebrate its 30th reunion on June 12 and 13.
