Gulf Breeze senior Emily Tryon was the overall female athlete award winner at last week's Pensacola Sports Association's Scholar Athlete Awards banquet. Tryon, who led the Lady Dolphin cross country team to their first ever top 10 finish at state, was honored for her efforts in track. The Elon Collegebound Tryon was second at the 2A state meet in the 3200 meters. More ... A couple hundred fans showed up on Saturday to cheer on the 2009 GBHS football team in the annual Blue and Gold intersquad game. Head Coach Chris Nemith said he was pleased with the effort and intensity the team showed. "I was really pleased with the intensity our kids played with," Nemith said. More ... Nearly 200 anglers participated in the 34th annual Gulf Breeze Optimist Fishing Rodeo Saturday and Sunday. Bryson Pfeiffer won the $1,000 grand prize, while Brent Perez, France Stuart, Carol Carpenter and Caitie Gill all won $50 for being named the Junior Anglers. More ... The Club hosted its annual Derby Classic Tennis tournament on May 1 and 2. If you didn't play, you missed a fun-filled event. Morgan White, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team, was in Gulf Breeze for a week putting on a gymnastics camp at Gulf Coast Gymnastics. The 2004 Dolphin football team held its Blue and Gold game after their jamboree. Because of that, many of the younger players played in the annual intrasquad game. More ... Katie Dollinger (GBHS Class of 2006) set a school record in the hammer throw, helping Rice University won its third consecutive Conference USA Outdoor Track Championship last week. Dollinger was second in her flight and was 10th overall with a throw of 161 feet, three inches. She was also fifth in her flight in the shot put and 15th overall with a throw of 40 feet, 2. More ...
