Midway Fire gives scholarship to student

      The Midway Fire District awarded a $1,500 scholarship to a Navarre High School student to help her pursue a career as a paramedic. Stephanie Watts, a senior at Navarre High, received the first Randall Garrett Scholarship Award on May 12 during a meeting of the Midway Fire District Commission.

Zoo babies showered with gifts and attention
     Photos by Pam Brannon/Gulf Breeze News The Zoo Northwest Florida held a Baby Shower on Saturday, May 9, for Zoo babies. During the festivities, attendees not only got to meet the Zoo babies but had the opportunity to see some entertainment from karate organizations and BETA Children's Theatre. Kids also enjoyed face painting and arts and crafts booths. Above, left: Kira Lovelady, a BETA Children's Theatre member, enjoys petting the calm, huggable Peter Rabbit. Baccalaureate is May 31
      Baccalaureate services for Gulf Breeze High School seniors will be held Sunday, May 31 at 6 p.m. at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, 75 Fairpoint Drive. The Baccalaureate service is a nondenominational religious service, and all are invited to attend.

ACLU cries foul in religion case

      The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) asked a U.S. District Court last week to hold two Santa Rosa County School employees in contempt of a court order from January prohibiting the endorsement or promotion of prayer at a schoolsponsored event.

Antonnacci formally crowned Queen of Hearts
      The coronation of the Queen of Hearts, Helen Antonnacci, was held May 3. She became queen at her 90th birthday party. Long may she reign! Antonnacci was formally crowned by Steve Zieman, the first King of Hearts. This gala event took place at the lovely home of Alan and Vicky Brock, who were co-hosts with Zieman.
