Dolphins compete at sectionals
Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News You got it Orion Dopyera spots for Justin Stephens during the Dolphins final home meet of the season. Dopyera was one of four Dolphins to compete in Monday's Sectional Meet at Arnold High School, while Stephens went as an alternate. Four members of the GBHS weightlifting team competed at Monday's Section 1 meet at Arnold High School.
Winners of all nine sectional meets, followed by the next nine highest weights, will qualify for the state meet April 24 in New Port Richey.
GBHS' best chance will come from Trey LeBlanc, who finished second in the 129 pound class with 370 pounds lifted (200 lbs. bench, 170 lbs. clean and jerk).
Mario Villegas (169 lb. class) and Brandon Van Camp (238) both finished fourth in their respective classes. Villegas lifted 500 pounds (275 bench, 225 clean and jerk), while Van Camp lifted 560 pounds (285 bench, 275 clean and jerk).
Orion Dopyera, competing in the 183 pound class, didn't compete in the clean and jerk after scratching in the bench press.
Justin Stephens (183) and E.J. Troup (219) made the trip to sectionals as alternates.
The Dolphins went into the sectional meet off a 58-23 loss at Navarre on April 1. Results for GBHS were as follows:
119 lb. class - 2) Holden Tibbs (155 lb. bench, 145 lb. clean and jerk - 300 total).
129 lb. class - 1) Connor Barretta (165/165 - 330), 2) James Buckley (165/155 - 320).
139 lb. class - 3) Trey LeBlanc (155/150 - 305).
154 lb. class - 3) Eric Adams (205/185 - 390).
169 lb. class - 3) Nicky Schumacher (225/205 - 430).
183 lb. class - 2) Orion Dopyera (265/235 - 500).
199 lb. class - 3) Blake Cannon (230/225 - 455).
219 lb. class - 2) E.J. Troup (265/235 - 500), 3) Brad Foley (255/230 - 485).
239 lb. class - 1) Brandon Van Camp (290/255 - 545), 3) Stephen Crowhurst (245/220 - 465).
Heavyweight class - 2) Michael Williams (320/250 - 570).
