      There's a new sheriff in town, and his name is Lieutenant Rodney Eddins. The 48-year-old Gulf Breeze resident is bringing a fresh approach to leading the Escambia County Sheriff's Office's efforts to police Precinct 1, Pensacola Beach.

Hilton first green hotel in the area
      The Hilton Pensacola Beach Gulf Front has been designated as the first "green hotel" in the Pensacola Bay Area by the Florida Green Lodging Program. The designation indicates the hotel follows strict environmental guidelines designed to conserve natural resources and prevent pollution.

Crash knocks out power on Pensacola Beach
      Several areas on Pensacola Beach were without power on Friday night, April 3, after the driver of a sport utility vehicle crashed into power boxes and fled the area. According to the report, the driver of the vehicle was pulling out of the Circle K parking lot when the SUV swerved and smashed through the power boxes.

Fort Pickens may re-open by Memorial Day
      After a five-year clean-up project, Gulf Island National Seashore officials are hopeful that Fort Pickens will re-open to the public by Memorial Day, May 25. "At this point, we hope to have it open by Memorial Day, but there's no gaurantee," said Steamer Lawhead, Gulf Island Natioanl Seashore Florida District Interpreter.

Observe sunset, moonrise tonight
      Gulf Islands National Seashore will offer an opportunity to enjoy the sunset and moonrise tonight from the beach at the entrance to Fort Pickens Area. Park Ranger Beckie Breeding-Mims will lead an hour-long program celebrating the night sky and the natural history of seashore beginning at the gate to the Fort Pickens Area and concluding on the beach in the park.
