Joe Culpepper/Gulf Breeze News Bishop John Ricard (left) of the Catholic Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee helps lead the Palm Sunday Way of the Cross procession through the heart of Gulf Breeze on Sunday. Parishioners from St. Ann Catholic Church conducted their annual Palm Sunday Way of the Cross procession from Wayside Park to the church campus on Sunday, April 5.

Bishop John Ricard of the Catholic Diocese of Pensacola- Tallahassee and St. Ann Rev. Monsignor Luke Hunt led the procession of about 100 Christians who strolled eastward along the south side of Gulf Breeze Parkway and made 14 stops, celebrating the 14 Stations of the Cross. Songs and prayers were shared along the way.

The local event commemorates Jesus' Biblical entrance into Jerusalem that drew crowds waving palm branches. St. Ann parishioners carried small palm strands that were to be burned to provide ashes for Ash Wednesday observances.

Holy Week events continue at St. Ann with Holy Thursday Mass today at 6:30 p.m. Good Friday observances will include a Stations of the Cross ceremony at 3 p.m. and worship service at 6:30 p.m.

Holy Saturday Mass will occur at 7 p.m. on Saturday. There will be no Saturday 4 p.m. Reconciliation Service this week.

On Sunday, Easter Masses will be held at 8:15 and 11 a.m. at the main campus at 100 Daniel Drive, and Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption on Pensacola Beach.
