PollHoops for Heart today; 'Curtains' this weekend
The winning boys and girls teams will play a group of teachers and staff from both the middle school and the elementary schools Hoops for Heart will feature a halftime show with various cheerleading groups, including "Oldie But Goodie" GBMS teacher cheerleaders. Also, there will be a free-throw competition for a gift certificate to a local store. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the GBHS gym. Admission is $3. GBHS Drama to perform fun Broadway musical The Gulf Breeze High School Drama Department will present the Broadway comedy musical whodunit 'Curtains' on March 20-21 at 7:30 p.m. and March 22 at 2:30 p.m. These performances will be at the Pensacola Junior College Ashmore Auditorium with reserved seating for $15. Call for reservations at 484-1847. This production is directed by Margie Timmons with choreography by Brandon Timmons. 'Curtains' opened on Broadway on March 22, 2007 and just closed on June 29, 2008 with eight Tony Award nominations including Best Musical.
SoundWave Band plans rummage sale The Gulf Breeze High School SoundWave Band will stage a huge rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 in the parking lot at Gulf Breeze High School. Items for sale will include furniture, working electronics, books, clothes, games, and household items. Proceeds will benefit the band students' New Uniform Fund. Are you spring cleaning? SRPE organizing public rally to support schools Santa Rosa Professional Educators are organizing a public rally April 2 at the Milton High School campus beginning promptly at 5 p.m. Florida legislators have opened their legislative session and will be making decisions regarding our children's educational funding and programs. Several local officials will be in attendance, including Tim Wyrosdick, School District Superintendent, and Mayor Guy Thompson of Milton. WBMS schedules 5K run for Saturday, April 4 Woodlawn Beach Middle School will hold its third annual Woodlawn Beach 5K Run/Walk on April 4 at 8 a.m. The public can register online at www.santarosa. k12.fl.us/wbm or on Active.com or by contacting the school directly. Prices are as follows: Now through April 3 - $15/students, $20/adults. Day of Race registration is $20 for all registrants. A pancake breakfast will be provided by the Gulf Breeze Optimist Club after the race. Culpepper of Gulf Breeze has been selected as a recipient of the 2009 University of West Florida Department of Psychology Senior Excellence Award. Culpepper qualified for the award by carrying a psychology GPA of 3.50 or higher. In addition, the faculty selected Culpepper in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements. Culpepper also was awarded a coveted spot on the department's Wall of Fame. Culpepper, daughter of Joe and Renee Culpepper, is a 2005 graduate of Gulf Breeze High. King Middle's Gunter Principal of Year David Gunter, Principal of King Middle School in Santa Rosa County, received recognition as the Innovative Principal of the Year for the district. This award is sponsored annually by the Florida Council of Instructional Technology Leaders at the state level. As principal, Gunter believes that as the instructional leader he must create conditions under which students learn best, including acquiring appropriate technology skills, providing professional development for teachers, and most of all establishing the belief and expectation that all students can learn, and that instructional technology has the power to take students beyond the inner city or rural poverty to any academic venue, profession, or path to individual success that fits their individual knowledge, skills, and abilities. Currently, Gunter provides leadership at the district level for implementation of datadriven curriculum and assessment decisions and implementation of the Classroom Walkthrough Model for assessing curriculum and instruction.
