A wearin' o' the green
RIGHT: Roy Jones Jr. crowned Shaleah Buss, second from left, the winner of the Green Bikini Contest. Runners up were Sakina Walsh, left, and Lisa Gibbs, right. See related story about Roy Jones' upcoming bout on page 3B St Patrick would have been proud of the honor bestowed on his memory Tuesday on Pensacola Beach as the Pensacola Beach Chamber offered it's "Go Irish on the Island" celebration.
The sunshine and temperate weather were a further encouragement to cross the bridge to enjoy the balmy breezes on Pensacola Beach and most sidewalks were occupied with people wearing green T-shirts, green derby hats and green bowties to commemorate the day.
Events included a reenactment of Finnegan's Wake at Paddy O'Leary's Irish Pub and a Catholic Mass in the tradition of pubs in Ireland.
The St. Paddy's Day Pub Crawl included stops at 12 taverns along the beach and a green bikini contest at Bamboo Willie's establishment on the Quietwater Boardwalk.
The event brought many additional visitors to the beach, and cars were still being counted as they crossed through the toll booth at Gulf Breeze News' press time.
