Milam's no-hitter gives Lady Dolphins second straight district shutout

Brown, Marsh homer in 8-2 loss at Escambia

Marsh Marsh The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin softball team bounced back from a nondistrict loss at Escambia to outscore a pair of district foes by a combined score of 31-0.

Lady Dolphins 11, West

Florida 0 (five innings)

Alison Milam threw a nohitter with seven strikeouts, while Adrian Culpepper hit two doubles and drove in two runs as Gulf Breeze (5-4, 5-1 in District 1-4A) shut out West Florida Thursday in Gulf Breeze.

Milam faced two batters over the minimum, throwing 36 of her 53 pitches for strikes. West Florida's only two baserunners came on a walk in the third and a fielding error in the fifth.

GBHS batted around the first inning, scoring four runs. Culpepper's first double scored the game's first run (Rosie Atkinson, who singled). Kasey Landfair then hit into a fielder's choice to score Milam, who singled, before Lyndsey Wright's two-out single scored Anndrea Marsh (who walked) and Landfair.

Atkinson went 2-for-4 and scored twice, while Landfair scored twice. Wright went 2- for-3 and scored twice.

Culpepper doubled again in the second inning, again scoring Atkinson, who singled. Marsh followed with a bloop single to score Atkinson.

GBHS added one more in the third inning when Wright led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Milam.

Gulf Breeze rounded out the scoring with four in the fourth - all with two outs. Landfair reached on an error with one out before Wright reached on a two-out error. Both of them scored on a double by Claire Koontz. Kellie Krueger then walked before a throwing error scored two more runs.

Lady Dolphins 20,

PHS 0 (five innings)

Kara Brown threw a twohit shutout with nine strikeouts as Gulf Breeze rolled at PHS on March 3.

The Lady Dolphins scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Wright, who doubled twice, scored twice and drove in two, hit an RBI double in the opening inning, while Marsh and Landfair hit run scoring singles. Marsh scored twice in the win, while Landfair went 2- for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

GBHS made it 12-0 in the third inning when Deannette Zuniga singled and scored when Ewens reached on a fielder's choice. Zuniga went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Ewens went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Morgan Bass, who went 3- for-5 with two RBIs and scored twice, hit an RBI double in a six-run fourth inning. Milam, who went 2-for-2 with a double and scored twice, hit an RBI single, as did Ewens. Koontz scored a run on a bases loaded walk, while Atkinson added an RBI single.

Krueger went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Ginny Coady drove in a run and scored twice. Brown scored twice in the win.

Escambia 8,

Lady Dolphins 2

The Lady Gators (6-1) scored three in the third and fourth innings and two more in the fifth to beat Gulf Breeze March 2 in Pensacola.

The Lady Dolphins scored both of their runs off solo home runs - one by Brown in the third inning (her second in as many games) and one by Marsh in the fifth inning. Kori Ewens had the team's only other hit - a single in the seventh inning.

Brown struck out four and allowed nine hits in three-plus innings, while Milam struck out four over the final three innings, allowing one hit.

Brittany Linton, the winning pitcher for Escambia, hit a three-run homer in the third inning. Catcher Brittany Peters, who had two hits and two runs scored, threw out two GBHS runners trying to steal in the game. Gulf Breeze had baserunners in every inning and left the bases loaded in the fifth after Marsh's homer.

West Florida JV 6,

Lady Dolphins 3

The Lady Jags scored four runs off four errors in the top of the sixth as they rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win Thursday in Gulf Breeze.

Jessica Watson hit an RBI double and scored a run, while Haley Bohannon and Coral Molina both scored once. Megan McDonald struck out 10 in the loss.

Lady Dolphin JV 4,

Escambia 4

McDonald had two hits and struck out five in a game with Escambia that was halted due to time limit.

Kat Landry hit an RBI double and scored once, while Breezy Paulus and Lindsay Meredeth both singled and scored once.
