Dolphins drop pair of district games
Come-from-behind win over Escambia separates losses to Navarre, Washington
Joe Culpepper/Gulf Breeze News Gulf Breeze's Tyler Boylan swings and misses during GBHS' 10-3 loss to Navarre on March 3. The Gulf Breeze Dolphin baseball team had a roller coaster week last week, recording a non-district win sandwiched in between a pair of district losses.
Navarre 10, Dolphins 3
The Raiders blew open a close game in Gulf Breeze on March 3, scoring five runs off only one hit - a two-run, two-out homer.
Navarre took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI singles by Matt Brewer and Devonte Taylor. Gulf Breeze cut the deficit in half on a solo homer by Corey Downs. Tyler McGee, after drawing a walk, injured his shoulder sliding into second base. Downs added a two-out single in the third inning, but was left on base.
Navarre's Brandon Bolivar laced a single off the glove of pitcher Trey Davis to make it 5-1. The Raiders added a solo run in the fourth.
Ben Lively, who struck out four over the first four innings, singled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. Lively singled again in the sixth inning, but was left on base.

McGee will miss the next four to six weeks with the shoulder injury.
Dolphins 7, Escambia 4
Gulf Breeze used a two-run double by Kris Matsoukas and a two-run single by Lively in the seventh inning to pull out a come from behind win at Escambia Thursday.
The Dolphins scored single runs in the first and second innings. Down singled and scored on a Stephen Robbins sacrifice fly, while Matsoukas singled and scored on an error in the second.
Escambia took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third before the Dolphins tied it in the fourth. Matsoukas singled and again, scored on an error.
Jackson Yates pitched the first five innings, striking out a pair before Trey Davis got the win in relief, striking out two and allowing two base hits.
Washington 7, Dolphins 5
The Wildcats scored all seven of its runs with the help of six Gulf Breeze errors in a game Friday at Washington.
The Cats scored the game's first run off a single, a throwing error and a wild pitch. The Dolphins would tie it in the third inning when Caleb Brown reached on a fielding error and scored on a Tyler Boylan groundout.
Washington added three more in the bottom of the third off two GBHS errors. The Dolphins cut the deficit in half in the fifth when Brown hit a one-out double. Stephen Robbins scored him with another double.
Gulf Breeze would tie it in the top of the sixth. Matsoukas singled and Robin Hoffpauir scored him with another single before Shows scored on a double steal with Hoffpauir.
Alex Ball took the tough luck loss, leaving the game after throwing 90 pitches in 5 1/3 innings with two runners on. Justin Ratte got the second out on one pitch before another Dolphin throwing error allowed the game-winning runs to score.
Robbins was hit by a pitch in the seventh and scored when Patrick Vance reached base on a dropped third strike. But the Dolphins would leave two runners on in the seventh and nine for the game.
Navarre JV 5, Dolphins 3
GBHS committed 10 errors in the first four innings in a loss to Navarre.
Trip Rowe went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Michael Mann tripled and scored. Brandon Sorenson struck out seven in four innings. He and Taylor Webb also scored runs.
Escambia JV 4, Dolphins 3
GBHS led 3-1 after an inning and a half, but couldn't hold the lead Thursday at Escambia.
Anthony Stancher went 2- for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Adam Gary, Sorenson and Jase Brown had one hit each. Mitch Yano struck out four in five innings.
Dolphin JV 12, Washington 1
GBHS blew open a close game with a nine-run sixth inning.
Mann went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, while Sorenson went 2- for-4 and scored once. Gary, Alec Purser and Brown all scored twice.
Mann struck out seven in five innings to get the win.
Freshman team starts
season 2-2
The Gulf Breeze ninth grade team recently started the season by splitting four games at the Escambia Invitational
Mitchell deKozan threw a three-hitter and struck out eight in a 8-3 win over Escambia. Trey Baker had two hits and two runs batted in. GBHS played Escambia a second time, losing 6-1.
The Dolphins gave up 11 unearned runs in a 14-13 loss to West Florida. Taylor Busbee, Andrew Jurnovoy, Kyle McGee, Cameron Davies and Max McDaniel all had multi hit games.
deKozan struck out four and went the distance as the Dolphins beat Pine Forest 11-4.
Busbee, Baker, McGee and deKozan all had multi hit games.
