Vici Papajohn/Gulf Breeze News Eagle Scout candidate Nick Musmansky (left) speaks to the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club as City Manager Buz Eddy looks on. Musmansky is working to ensure that smoke detectors in the city are properly charged with 9-volt batteries. Eagle Scout candidate Nick Musmansky needs support for his drive to ensure that smoke detectors throughout the city are properly charged with 9-volt batteries and homes that lack the detectors can receive a free installation. Musmansky has been visiting area civic clubs soliciting assistance and donations to help make the project possible, and the public is invited to help as well.

Musmansky is working with the Gulf Breeze Fire Department to identify homes in the community, some of them inhabited by senior citizens, that do not have working smoke detectors.

'We are happy to work with Nick," says Gulf Breeze City Manager Edwin Buz Eddy. "We hope we can avoid any deaths that could occur when properly working alarms are not in place."

Volunteers may support house-to-house surveying on March 14, and new battery packets and cash donations can be dropped by City Hall. To learn more, call Eddy at 935-5100.
