2008 full of successes on the field and off

The 2008 calendar year was full of successes on the field, as well as in the classroom. Here's the year in review:
January
Sophomore Kristen Barona scored the team's lone goal in the Lady Dolphins' 1-0, Senior Day win over Washington.
Sophomore Maggie Rodgers (Florida), along with juniors Alyssa Smith (Ole Miss) and Jesse Vickrey (Florida Atlantic) all verbally commit to Division I schools. Fellow juniors Aubrey Curington (Mississippi State) and Jessica Majewski (UWF) would verbally commit to play college soccer later in the year.
The Dolphin basketball forced seven fourth quarter turnovers in a 43-41 win over Milton. Bryan Shreve made four free throws in the final minute to seal the win.
The 2006-07 Dolphin baseball team received its plaque recognizing them as the smartest 3A team in the state. They had a 3.465 team grade point average.

The Lady Dolphin soccer team got another goal from Barona to beat Washington 1-0 for the District 1-3A title, their 16th in the last 17 years. GBHS scored four first half goals to beat Navarre 4-0 in the semifinals.
Keith Savage, a 2003 GBHS grad, is drafted in the fourth round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Chivas USA. Savage finished his college career at UWF as their third all-time leading goal scorer and finished tied for first all-time in assists.
Leland Davis scored the game-winning goal as Gulf Breeze had to rally for a 2-1 win over Navarre for the District 1-3A title. Richard Benson had 18 saves in the win. Davis had two goals and an assist in the Dolphins'4-1 win over Washington in the semifinals.
Curington scored a goal (one of eight different Lady Dolphins to do so) and assisted on three others as Gulf Breeze rolled to a 8-0 win over Arnold in the regional quarterfinals.
Home schooled sophomore Jackie Kasler won the 18s Florida Sectional Tennis Championship in Tampa. Kasler, who was unseeded, beat four seeded players on her way to the title.
Erik Mims made a layup with 20 seconds left as the Dolphins beat Mosley 46-44. Jeff White had a game-high 14 points.
An ailing Lady Dolphin soccer team got second half goals from Majewski and Barona as Gulf Breeze beat Washington 2-0 in the regional semifinals.
February
Gulf Breeze's ailing list doubled three days later, but all six played in a 4-0 win over Bishop Kenny in the regional finals. The win put the Lady Dolphins into the state tournament for the second straight year and the seventh time in the last 10 years.
The Gulf Breeze boys swim team won the 2A, as well as the overall, Academic State Championship. The boys cross country team and the girls swim teams finished second, while the girls cross country team finished third.
Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Hi, I'm Jackie Before Jackie Kasler became a full time student at GBHS, she had won the 2A state singles and doubles titles, partnering with Jen Pfeifler. Kasler, now a junior, went 42-0 last season. The Dolphins got goals from Stuart Parks, Brad Parrish and Jake Ceravolo to beat Tallahassee Godby 3-0 in a regional quarterfinal match.
David Hibberts made a layup as time expired to give the Dolphins a 51-49, double overtime win at home over Catholic on Senior Night. One of those seniors, Matt Catellier, had a team-high 15 points.
The Dolphin wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to regionals after finishing third at the District 1-A meet at Arnold High School. John Stanley (152 pound weight class), Kyle Chavers (160) and Taylor Retherford (171) were district champions, while Brandon Buchalter (135) and Tanner Eagley (145) were runner ups.
Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Heading west - to South Will Thomas medaled three times at the state track meet, then signed a cross country and track scholarship at South PHS jumped out to an 18-1 lead as the Lady Dolphins lost 61- 32 in a District 1-4A semifinal game. The Lady Dolphins got a career-high 23 points from Natalie Alverson in GBHS' 57-52 win over Milton in a first round matchup, the second straight year the Lady Dolphins won a tournament game.
Brad Parrish scored on a breakaway goal in the 14th minute as the Dolphins clinched their first state tournament berth in five years, beating Jacksonville Stanton Prep 1-0 in the regional final.
Ceravolo scored the eventual game-winner with two minutes left in the first half as the Dolphins beat Navarre 2-1 in the regional semifinals. It was the third straight game GBHS beat Navarre by one goal.
Merritt Island snapped the Lady Dolphins consecutive scoreless minute streak at 624 as they scored two first half goals to beat Gulf Breeze 2-0 in the state semifinals in Fort Lauderdale.
Chavers finished second, while Retherford took fourth at regionals to become the first two GBHS wrestlers to ever qualify for the state meet.

The Dolphin basketball team staged a fourth quarter rally, but White's runner rimmed out as time expired in a 45-43 loss to Milton in the first round of the district tournament. GBHS finished 14-12, their first winning season in eight years.
In her high school debut, freshman Alison Milam threw a threehit shutout, struck out 11 and hit a three-run homer in the Lady Dolphins' 11-0 win over West Florida.
Kameron Brunty hit a threerun homer in the Dolphins' 7-0 preseason win over Pine Forest, last year's 4A state runners up.
Brad Parrish scored two minutes into overtime as the Dolphins beat Merritt Island 1-0 in the state semifinals for their first ever state championship game appearance. But defending champion Nease would score on a penalty kick in the 34th minute as they beat GBHS 2-1 in the title game. Stuart Parks had tied the game at 1, scoring off a long free kick by Christian Mauldwin.
Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News An amazing ride Noelle Robles and Kaley Morris played parts in the University of West Florida's run to the national championship match. Morris was second on the team in minutes played. Emily Hodgson, a 2005 GBHS grad who died of a brain aneurysm last June, had her softball jersey retired in a ceremony at the library. Hodgson, a three-year starter, wore jersey number eight.
Chavers won one match at the state meet to finish the season with a 36-5 record. Retherford finished the season at 27-8.
Seniors Ashley Collins signed a soccer scholarship with the University of South Alabama, while Noelle Robles signed with UWF.
The Dolphin baseball team scored 33 runs in one day - a 15-3 win over Flomaton and an 18-3 win over W.S. Neal.
Jen Pfeifler won three events, while Emily Tryon and Lauren Musick both won two as the Lady Dolphin track team won the Panhandle Invitational in Panama City.

Davis, Parrish, Kyle Losoya and Josh Pagonis played in the boys game, while Collins played in goal in the girls game.
The Lady Dolphin softball team scored 21 runs in the first inning of a 30-0 win over PHS.
In what was a recurring theme all winter and spring, the Pensacola Beach Volleyball Club's U-15 team won the inaugural Randy Pounders Memorial Open.
In another recurring theme, the U10 Gulf Breeze Wave won the Niceville ASP Preseason Classic.
March
Savage signs with Chivas USA as a developmental player.
Meeker Katie Dollinger, a 2006 GBHS grad, helped the Rice Lady Owls won their second straight Conference USA Indoor Track and Field championship.
The U16 Bayside Storm and the U18 Pensacola Futbol Club Lady Wolves both won their age brackets at the Auburn Tiger Showcase.
The U-8 Gulf Breeze Storm, the U-10 Gulf Breeze Wave and the U14 Dolphins won in the finals of the GBSA Preseason Classic.
The GBHS varsity cheerleading squad finished eighth out of 26 teams at the first ever FHSAA Competitive Cheerleading competition in Boca Raton.
The Lady Dolphin track team set two schools records (distance medley, mile medley) in relays on their way to a win at the Pizza Hut Relays at Tate High School.
The PBVC U-15 team won their fourth straight tournament, taking their age division at Lizardfest in Pensacola.
Seth Hewerdine (139 lb. class), Mims (154) and Eric Agricola (heavyweight) won their weight classes at the District 1-A meet. Jonathon Stephens (169) and E.J. Troup (199) were runners up, while Connor Barretta (119), Chris Barretta (129) and Brandon Van Camp (219) took third, giving the Dolphins eight sectional participants.
Kyle Cormier, a 2004 GBHS grad and a junior at the University of South Carolina, finished in the top five in two events at the Speedo Champions Series Spring Sectional Championships in Nashville.
An sacrifice fly was the difference in the Dolphins' 7-6, 10 inning loss to West Florida.
GBHS set school records in both boys and girls' 4x800 meter relays, while Tryon won the mile and two mile at the Andrews Institute Invitational meet in Gulf Breeze. The girls finished fourth, while the boys finished third.
Jacob Burks (West Alabama) and Joey Leonard (Harper College) signed football scholarships.
Thomas Dorsey struck out 12 as the Dolphin JV baseball team beat Tate 8-2 in the final of the Crusader Invitational.
The U-16 Bayside Thunder and the U-18 PFC Lady Wolves advanced to the second round of State Cup play. Vickrey had an assist in one of PFC's wins.
Future Lady Dolphin soccer player Sammy Welsh scored a goal in the PFC U-14 team's 3-0 win over Florida Red Star as they went on to win their group.
Rodgers scored two goals and had an assist as the First Coast Kyx Elite won their U-16 age group.
Eighth grader Neal Lacey (800 meter run) and seventh grader Austin Droogsma (discus) set Gulf Breeze Middle School records at their annual track meet.
The Gulf Breeze 16-under AAU basketball team took sixth place out of 15 teams at the Disney Easter Classic.
Mark Waghalter threw a onehit shutout, striking out seven in the Dolphins' 3-0 win over Jay.
April
Steve Cheney, a 2004 GBHS graduate, made the New York Mets' High-A affiliate in Port St. Lucie.
Cormier qualifies for the Olympic Trials in the 200 meter freestyle.
The PBVC U-15 Barracudas won the Gulf Coast Bid Championship to qualify for the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in June in Dallas.
Six members of the Dolphin weightlifting team competed in the sectional meet, with Agricola (heavyweight) the only one to qualify for state.
The GBHS tennis teams won 11 of 14 divisions to roll to the District 1-2A championship in Panama City.
The Lady Dolphin track team won its first district championship in eight years. Musick qualified for regionals in four events, while Tryon and Pfeifler qualified in three each. Will Thomas qualified in three events for the boys team, who finished third.
The Dolphin wrestling team won the 1A, as well as the overall, state championship in the FHSAA's Academic State competition. The Dolphins had a 3.336 cumulative grade point average.
Aileen Atzhorn, who qualified for state in 10 events in her four year career, signs a swim scholarship with South Carolina, joining her older brother Andy (class of 2006) there.
Savage scored his first professional point for Chivas USA, recording an assist in their 4-3 loss to the Columbus Crew.
The Gulf Breeze Wave won the Tiger Point Shootout - their fourth tournament title in their last five. They are Kendall Gallagher, Matthew deMahy, Wade Niles, Jace Amberson, Sam Joyce, Xavier Arant, Jacob Cross, Adam Colston, Zane Gill, Julian Gordon and Tyler Phelps.
The Lady Dolphin track team took third, while the boys were sixth, at the regional meet. A total of 13 qualified for state, including Tryon, who broke her own school record in the two mile (11:14). Pfeifler, Musick, Laurin Halstead and Katie Aldridge also set a new school record in the mile relay (4:14.11).
The boys and girls tennis teams qualified for state, the second time in the last three years both teams did so.
The PBVC's U-14 team won the Lower Alabama Classic in Daphne.
Kasler capped off a perfect tennis season, winning the 2A singles and doubles titles in Casselberry. Kasler teamed up with Pfeifler to win the doubles crown as Kasler finished the 2008 season with a perfect 42-0 record.
The track teams medaled in 10 of the 11 events they were in at the state meet, led by Briana Santiago's (triple jump) and Tryon's (two mile) bronze medals. Thomas medaled in all three events he was in (800, 4x800 meter relay and the mile). Both 4x800 meter relay teams set new school records.
West Florida scored eight of its 12 runs with two outs as they beat the Dolphin baseball team 12- 2 in a District 1-4A semifinal at West Florida. It marked the 28th straight year the Dolphins have failed to make the playoffs.
The PFC U17 Lady Wolves got a goal and an assist from Curington as they advanced to the State Cup Finals, their third in the last four years.
Jack Begley had an assist to Diego Figueroa for the U-16 Thunder, but Arsenal scored three straight goals to eliminate the Thunder from State Cup play, 5-1. Rodgers had two goals and an assist in two matches for Kyx Elite, the second of which was a penalty kick loss that eliminated them from State Cup play.
Agricola placed 11th out of 17 lifters in the heavyweight division at the state meet in Daytona Beach.
May
Frances Harpole scored in all four games for the U-12 Bayside Storm as they won their age bracket at Bayside's Gulf Coast Invitational, held at Brosnaham Park. Joseph Rojas scored with 30 seconds left in double overtime to give the U-11 Elite the title in their age bracket. The U- 16 Bayside Storm lost in their final in penalty kicks.
Thomas became the first GBHS male track athlete to sign a college scholarship in six years when he signed with South Alabama.
Brittany Clay scored on a 14-yard run as the Class of 2007 beat the juniors 6- 0 to win the school's annual Powder Puff Game.
Kim Tryon, a 2006 GBHS graduate, won the pole vault and was second in the triple jump to help Rhodes College win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Lizzy Mabry, also a 2006 GBHS grad, was eighth for Florida State in the pole vault at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship meet.
The PFC Lady Wolves, made up of mostly 16 and 17-year-olds, lost to the Tampa Knights 3-0 in the U18 state semifinals at State Cup, held in Pace.
Former Lady Dolphin assistant soccer coach and head softball coach Rob Simon is named the head girls soccer coach at Navarre.
Majewski verbally commits to play soccer at UWF, giving them three (Kaley Morris, class of '06 and Robles) on the 2009 Lady Argo squad.
Dolphin baseball players Shane Dorlag (UWF) and Mark Waghalter (PJC) sign baseball scholarships on the same day.
Christine Hay became the first Lady Dolphin to play college basketball in 10 years, signing a letter of intent to play for Huntingdon College. Julie Deese (Spring Hill, 1998) was the last one.
Dollinger competed in three events for Rice University, who repeated as Conference USA Champs at the 2008 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Seven GBHS athletes - Aileen Atzhorn (swimming), Will Thomas (cross country), Kristen Dorsey (golf), Kyle Chavers (wrestling), Tommy Gibble (soccer), Lauren Musick (track) and Whitney Harris (Gary McAdams Memorial Scholarship) - won awards for their respective sports at the Pensacola Sports Association's Awards banquet. The seven awards was more than any other school.
Kasler and Pfeifler are back on the tennis court, winning tennis tournaments. Kasler won the International Tennis Federation's doubles title in Waco, Tx., while Pfeifler won the United States Tennis Association's Gulfstream Designated Girls singles title in Boca Raton.
June
The U-8 Gulf Breeze Storm win the second of two straight tournaments, taking the crown at a tournament in Disney World. They include: Nick McCain, Luke Ellis, Matthew Hawkins, Deems Edlund, Connor Thompson, Daniel Green, Jacob Brandon, Brent Williams, Gavin Mayes, Thomas Goodroe, Jesse Grant, Joshua Hoffman, Luke Stringfellow and Josh Smith.
The GBSA 8-under All Stars won the End of the Season Tournament, sponsored by the GBHS softball program.
Bayside Thunder coach Fraga DaRosa goes back to Brazil - but not before aceing the American citizenship exam.
The GBSA 8U and 10U All Stars took second place in their age groups at the GBHS Summer Classic at Shoreline Park.
The GBSA 8U All Stars won the Northwest Florida Girls Softball Alliance's Postseason Tournament in Molino. They are: Whitney Weldon, Regan Raley, Blair Amberson, Hallie Hill, Sophie Sanchez-Aviles, Lauren Stokes, Maddie Grace McCurdy, Rachel Greer, Madison Patrick, Rainey Niles, Samantha Karcher and Avery Curington.
Chelsea Takacs, a 2006 GBHS graduate, commits to play softball at Southeastern Louisiana University. Takacs, who played the previous two years for PJC, is the first Lady Dolphin to play Division I softball in six years - Brooke Kostic played at SELA from 1998-2002.
Sean Tomey agrees to be the new softball coach at GBHS, the fifth in as many years. Tomey coached the Lady Dolphins to their last winning season (2006).
The GBSA 9-under and 10-under All Stars won the Dizzy Dean District Championships at Shoreline Park. The 9- unders include: Reddon McLaurine, Tristan Covell, Cole Sheppard, Parker Baynes, Brett Pardonner, Hayden Hill, Brian Joyner, Kendall Gallagher, Zach Kelley and Bo Fabbro.
Former Lady Dolphin head coach Eric Miles had some help from some of his former players (Navarre's Anne Preston, Jenny Wells and Alex Hermann and GBHS' Carly Loehr) as his team from Naples came within a point of playing in the Region C championship in Jacksonville.
Rising junior Ashleigh Ryals won the Rocky Bayou Country Club Junior Classic for the second straight year.
Dorsey won the Mississippi/Alabama/Louisiana Optimist District Tournament in Courtland, Ala.
July
The GBSA 7-under All Stars finished second at the Dizzy Dean State Tournament. They are: Tyler Gore, Coleman Burtt, Spencer Wirth, Carter Sheppard, Paul Snider, Kel Jackson, Cayson McCurdy, Chance Napier, Chandler Burtt, Clay Clifton, Braden Massey and Trenton Lamar.
Mark Ransom, who coached the last Lady Dolphin softball team to a playoff berth (2002), agrees to be an assistant for Tomey during the 2009 season.
Cormier set three personal records, while Andy Atzhorn set one, at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. Cormier competed in the 200 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle and the 200 meter individual medley. Atzhorn also competed in the 200 IM.
After losing their first five matches, the U-15 Barracudas won their last two to win their flight at the Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships in Dallas.
GBHS athletics, as well as Navarre, Milton and Pace, will have to make adjustments as the new class schedules are announced. All four schools now start at 9 a.m., with dismissal around 4 p.m.
The Gulf Breeze U-12 Yankees take fourth out of 17 teams at the USSSA World Series in Pensacola. They are: Michael Hawkins, Mason Baker, Andy Creech, Eric Larsen, Chandler Foxworth. Taylor Baynes, Michael Neal, Benji Diaz, Nick Morgan, Gray Dorsey and Jake Durant.
The Breeze Basketball U-12 team won the Summer Madness Shootout at UWF.
The GBHS soccer teams found out their state tournament journey won't be as long the next two years as the FHSAA a move from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa.
The Lady Dolphin volleyball team finished sixth out of 58 teams at the University of Florida's Volleyball Camp.
The 16-under Southern Legacy shut out their last four opponents to win the inaugural University Softball Girls Fastpitch World Series in Exchange Park. They are: Angelina Malamo, Kara Brown, Kellie Krueger, Ashley Middleton, Taylor Mitchell, Adrian Culpepper, Morgan Bass, Kasey Landfair, K.K. Howard and Maggie Swinford.
Kasler and doubles partner Alex Cercone of Seminole took second out of 128 teams at the 18s Clay Court Super National Championships in Memphis.
Celia Eddy was one of 35 girls to go to the A-1 Development Camp, sponsored by the United States Volleyball Association.
Dustin Clements played with the 17- under Pensacola Tornadoes at the AAU National Basketball Tournament in Orlando.
Milam went 7-for-14 (.500 average) and struck out eight in 8 2/3 innings for High Intensity during the ASA/USA Girls Single A Fastpitch National Championships in Owensboro, Ky. Eddy and Clements are rising seniors, while Milam is a sophomore.
Dorsey won her second straight Divot Derby championship, beating Pace's Haley Millsap by one shot. Ryals was third. Rising sophomore Sarah Hicks won the 14-15 year old girls title.
The GBHS varsity cheerleading squad took first out of 20 teams in the Performance category at the National Cheerleading Association Camp at the University of Georgia. They are: Elizabeth Niles, Emily Adams, Kari Stephenson, Kady Reeves, Maci deMahy, Maggie Clark, Ashley Wilson, Brittany Hurd, Natalie Landry, Alexa Booth, Amanda Bennett, Bayleigh Boles, Casey Redish, Margaret Pagonis and Arika Hurd.
Stephenson, Redish, junior Pagonis, sophomores Meredeth Chavers, Alayna Hayes and freshman Julianne Lewis were all named NCA All Americans.
August
Hicks finished eighth out of 60 participants at the Trusted Choice Big 'I' Junior Golf Classic in Pinehurst, N.C. Hicks shot a 303 over four days, finishing only seven shots out of second place. She made two birdies each day. Later that month, Hicks finished 41st out of 84 junior golfers at the 2008 First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.
The Lady Dolphin softball team, behind the pitching of Brown, Milam and Deannette Zuniga, won the Beat the Heat Tournament, an all-night tournament, played at Washington High School. The trio struck out 40 and walked only two in the 13-hour long tournament.
B.J. Price, a Gulf Breeze alum who had coached soccer at Navarre for the last eight years, is named Dean of Students at GBHS.
Savage makes his third start of the season in front of a nationally televised audience for Chivas USA in a 2-2 tie against David Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy.
Brittany Pyle, a 2008 GBHS grad, earns a spot on the University of North Florida's soccer team as a walk-on.
Brad McGuire, a 2007 GBHS grad, threw his first collegiate touchdown for Louisiana-Lafayette in a 51-21 loss to Southern Miss. Josh Hurd (Class of 2006) dressed out for Southern Miss, but didn't get playing time.
September
Doug Baldwin, a 2007 GBHS grad, scored his first collegiate touchdown for Stanford on a 38-yard run in the Cardinal's 31-14 loss to Texas Christian.
Jason McKie, a 1998 GBHS grad, scores touchdowns in each of his first two games of the season with the Chicago Bears.
Kyle Schnackenberg threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Jeff White with 1:05 left in the game as the Dolphins beat Tate 31-24. White also scored a touchdown by running in a fumble recovery.
Michala Nowak won the 100 yard freestyle for the GBHS swim team at the 2008 Optimist Club Swim Meet at The Club.
Tryon broke the school record by 30 seconds, running an 18:46.88 as GBHS won the J.D. McDaniel Invitational in Jay.
Baldwin caught a 61-yard touchdown pass for Stanford in a 35-28 win at Washington.
October
Pfeifler and doubles partner Anthony Barrancotto won the 2008 Florida State Mixed Doubles 16s Championship in Daytona Beach.
The Dolphins committed three turnovers and committed a questionable personal foul late in the game as they lost 17-10 to Catholic on Homecoming Night - their first loss to the Crusaders in six years.
An interception, a fumble and a botched punt led to 14 of Catholic's 17 points.
The Lady Dolphin volleyball team won its sixth straight match, beating Milton in the final of the Tate Invitational.
Ashleigh Ryals and Hicks went 1-2 for the Lady Dolphins as they won the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament at A.C. Read.
Stevi Steinhauer, a 2006 GBHS grad, won all three events she entered for Florida State in wins over Florida International and Florida Atlantic.
The Dolphins rallied from a 14-0 halftime deficit, only to lose a 35-34 triple overtime heartbreaker to West Florida. It would be one of five games the Dolphins held a lead in this season - only to lose all five.
Baldwin caught his third touchdown of the year for Stanford in a 24-23 win over Arizona.
The Lady Dolphin golf team won their sixth consecutive district title as Ashleigh Ryals repeated as district champ. Hicks was second, while Laurin Halstead was tied for fourth. The boys team finished second to Catholic.

The Lady Dolphin soccer team scored 12 goals in a pair of preseason matches with Niceville and Fort Walton Beach. Jesse Vickrey had three goals, while Maggie Rodgers had four assists against Niceville, while Jessica Majewski had three goals and Kristen Barona two against FWB.
Morris scored the game-winning goal for UWF as they clinched the top seed in the Gulf South Conference Tournament with a 3-0 win over Montevallo.

Nowak and Ross were the lone GBHS swimmers to qualify for the state meet as a result of their efforts at the regional meet. Both qualified in two events.
The Lady Dolphin cross country team placed five of its runners in the top nine and seven in the top 15 to win the District 1-2A meet in Pace. Tryon, Pfeifler and Sammy Welsh went 1-2-3 for Gulf Breeze.
The Lady Dolphin volleyball team led two games to none on the road at Wakulla before the Lady Eagles rallied to win a five-set marathon. A GBHS timeout that was called (when they didn't have one) gave Wakulla an 18-16, game five win.
Jamie Hayes, a 2006 GBHS grad, made the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All District Volleyball Team. Hayes is the setter at St. Andrews Presbyterian College and also made the Dean's List.
UWF's Morris was named to the All Gulf South Conference second team. She has three goals and two assists this season.
Gulf Breeze led late in the third quarter, but Navarre would rally in the fourth quarter to beat the Dolphins 18-9 for the inaugural Publix Beach Cup, presented by the Gulf Breeze News.

Celia Eddy signed a volleyball scholarship with Elon University, the first Lady Dolphin to sign with a Division I school in five years.

Pfeifler and doubles partner Amy Grossklag won the United States Tennis Association's National Open 16s Doubles Tournament in Pensacola. The unseeded Pfeifler made it all the way to the semifinals in singles competition, beating three seeded players on the way.
The Dolphin wrestling team started its season by winning South Walton Preseason Classic, beating South Walton, Bay and Wewahitchka.
The Dolphin basketball team lost its season opener 73-54 to Baker, despite a 32-point, 22-rebound from Dustin Clements.
Eddy and Tobie Bass help the East All Stars beat the West four games to one in the Pensacola Sports Association's All Star Game at UWF.

Morris, Robles and their UWF teammates advance to their first ever national championship match, but lost a heartbreaker 1-0 in double overtime to Seattle Pacific. Morris finished the season second on the team in minutes played with 2,210.
Clements scored 36 points and grabbed 29 rebounds as the Dolphins won its first game of the season, beating Pensacola Christian 71-65 in overtime.
The Lady Dolphins blast Leon 8-0 at the Chiles Timberwolf Classic in Tallahassee to improve to 8-0 on the season before losing their first two games of the season.
The Lady Dolphin cross country team finished second in the state in 2A for the Academic Team Championship competition. The boys golf team finished third.
Cayla Platt scored twice as the Lady Dolphin soccer team beat Washington 4-0.
Gulf Breeze resident Norman Meeker set a new state record in the 800 meters for his age group (3:16.75) to win a gold medal at the Florida Senior State Games in Cape Coral. He was also third in the 100 meter dash (18.58). He also competed in the 400 meters, but didn't place because of injury.
