      Because of the holiday, Gulf Breeze News is being distributed on Dec. 31. There still is time to make plans to bring in the New Year at these events: Pensacola Symphony Orchestra presents New Year's Eve concert: PSO celebrates the new year with two performances on Wednesday night at 7 and 9:30 p.m.

Jazz Society to jam in Gulf Breeze
      The Jazz Society of Pensacola will present a Jazz Jam at Jambalaya's Grill and Oyster Bar in Gulf Breeze at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5. The event, held on the first Monday of each month at various locations around the Bay Area, features talented local and visiting jazz musicians playing standards and improvisation.

Gulf Breeze City looking for innovative alternative new ways to raise revenue to pay for its $18 million annual budget. The city has already raised water and sewer fees, as well as dump fees and boat-launching fees.

Stag One blazed trail
Retired Gulf Breeze veteran had hand in technology
      A 57-year resident of Gulf Breeze had a hand in the design and assembly of the U.S. military's first remote-guided missile, intended to hit enemy targets while reducing the risk to American servicemen. It prevented Navy pilots from being shot down during World War II bombing missions against heavily fortified Japanese military positions in the South Pacific islands.

Deadman's Island restoration gets support
      Heather Reed of Ecological Consulting Services and project manager overseeing the Deadman's Island Restoration Project, announced that new efforts are under way to support the initiative. First, there are two beautiful paintings of Deadman's Island on display at the Gulf Breeze Framery: 16 X 20 prints that can be purchased for $60, and tiles are available for $40.
