'Losing Weight as You Age' topic of Sacred Heart Seniors Seminar

Sacred Heart Hospital's SENIORSpirit! Program will present a free seminar entitled "Losing Weight as You Age" on Thursday, Sept. 18, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Rehabilitation Center at The Club in Gulf Breeze.

The seminar will be presented by Dr. Anthony Huynh, a board certified bariatrician with Sacred Heart Medical Group. A bariatrician is a fellowshiptrained internal medicine physician who specializes in nutrition and weight loss. The seminar will discuss how the body's metabolism changes as we age, as well as strategies on losing and maintaining weight for seniors.

Located at The Club at 1230 Crane Cove Boulevard in Gulf Breeze, Sacred Heart Rehabilitation focuses on patient education and provides treatments that help individuals to strive towards improving and maintaining their own health.

Sacred Heart SENIORSpirit! is a free program for persons 55 and older. West Florida Hospital Services

On Monday, Sept. 8, the West Florida Rehabilitation Institute will host a support group meeting for stroke patients and caregivers from 2-3 p.m. in Community Rooms A & B, 8391 North Davis Highway, Pensacola. The topic of the meeting will be 'Memory Strategies for Everyone' and will be presented by Linda Bailey, MA, CCC/SLP, Director of Speech/Language Pathology at West Florida Rehabilitation Institute.

The session is free and open to former stroke patients, families, caregivers, or anyone who might be interested in attending. Reservations are not required; however for more information about the Stroke Support Group, call (850) 494-3212.

Tuesday, Sept. 9: The Sleep Disorders Center will host a support group meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The featured speaker will be Robert Dawkins, PhD, MPH, certified sleep specialist with West Florida Hospital, and his topic will be 'Sleep Disorders and CPAP Therapy.' The session is free and open to anyone with a suspected or confirmed sleep disorder; family members are also welcome. Registration is required. To register, call (850) 494-3212.

Wednesday, Sept. 10: The West Florida Rehabilitation Institute will host a support group meeting for brain injury patients and family members. The topic of the meeting will be 'Celebrate Rehabilitation.'

The Brain Injury Support Group meets monthly to offer support and the latest information about TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) for current and former brain injury patients, their families, and others in the community who have suffered a TBI. Wednesday, Sept. 10: West Florida Hospital will host a support group meeting for people with Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (a device that provides an electrical shock for persons with irregular heartbeats). The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, the topic will be 'Depression.' The session is free. Seating is limited, and reservations are required. To register, call (850) 494-3212.
