File photo/Gulf Breeze News St. Sylvester Catholic Church at 6464 Gulf Breeze Parkway plans its third annual Fashion Show and Luncheon on Sept. 20. The event is presented each year by the Columbiettes.
The Columbiettes of St. Sylvester Catholic Church are planning their third annual Fashion Show and Luncheon, which returns this year by popular demand.

This grand occasion will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at the St. Sylvester Activities Building located at 6464 Gulf Breeze Parkway. Doors open at 11 a.m., and lunch, catered by Apple Market of Pensacola, will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by the fashion show.

The fashion show will feature ladies', men's and children's fashions provided by Kohl's Department Store of Pensacola. Twenty-six models will show clothing for all occasions. It's even been rumored that guest models (Fathers Kelly and Alvaro) might also appear.

Reservations are required. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.

For additional information, call the church office at 939- 3020, Julie at 939-9023 or Joanne at 936-8776. Checks should be made payable to Columbiettes and mailed to Julie Alberghini, 2640 Masters Blvd., Navarre, 32566, or Joanne Mahoney, 7219 Frankfort St., Navarre, 32566.

Tickets requested by mail will be issued upon arrival. Checks must be received and tickets purchased by Sept. 15. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets will also be available at Masses in September. Proceeds will benefit the Columbiettes' community services (such as the annual free Senior Bingo Bash).

As always, it will be a day filled with fun, door prizes, raffles and 50/50 drawings. Wine, soda and bottled water will be available for a donation. Bring your spouse, neighbors, friends and relatives for a day of fun.

Gulf Breeze Methodist

On Aug. 17, approximately 500 area school children had their backpacks blessed during ceremonies at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church's Fairpoint and Soundside campuses.

Almost 300 children turned out for "blessing of the backpacks" at Fairpoint, and more than 200 attended at Soundside.

Children received crosses that had been prayed over and blessed by pastors to be worn on students' backpacks.

"What a magnificent job Jennifer Keenan and Janet Sallis, our Children's Ministry Directors, and their staffs and volunteers do!" GBUMC Rev. Herb Sadler said in his weekly newsletter.

"I am so grateful ours is a church that loves children, teaches children, protects children and keeps them safe. I'm grateful for The Children's Place, our weekday preschool, led by Renee Cobb and an excellent teaching staff, and for all they do for community children."

All children and their families are welcome at Gulf Breeze Methodist's two locations.

Gulf Breeze Community Life Center, a part of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, is offering afternoon art classes for children ages 3-12.

The first class is a Little Artist Series for Preschoolers for ages 3-5. This class is designed for little ones who just want to have fun. Budding artists can look forward to a different artistic adventure each week. The class began on Tuesday, but late-comers can still get in on the fun from 3 to 3:45 p.m. each Tuesday through Oct. 14. The cost is $95 for eight weeks.

The second class is called Studio One for ages 6-12. Area youth are invited to join the fun and create art like masters such as Audubon, Morrisseau, Solberg, Picasso and others. Learn new techniques, interesting art words, and fascinating facts about these great artists. Bring a snack and drink along with you. This class meets from 4-5 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 2 and running through Oct. 21. Cost is $95 for eight weeks.

St. Ann Catholic

The time is now to register for the Sept. 20 St. Ann People 4 People 5K Run/Walk.

This great tradition continues to support Christian service activities of the parish. The run will start at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Ann Catholic Church at 100 Daniel Drive.

"This is an event that focuses on families as well as the seasoned competitive runner/race walker," said Dave Babcock, this year's People 4 People chairman. "In addition to the competitive side, the second 'star' will also be for casual walkers - where families can take a relaxed walk through the St. Ann neighborhood, and have a pancake breakfast afterwards."

Five major award categories and several age categories can compete for awards, and all registered participants are treated to a pancake breakfast at the award ceremony immediately after the race. There will be instant winners to all door prizes posted directly after the race based on bib numbers, too.

Registration is $15 for early registration (ages 13 and up), $20 after Sept. 18. If you do not want a t-shirt, registration is $10. You can pick up your bib number and t-shirt at the St. Ann parish hall on Friday Sept. 19, 2008 from 3 to 7 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. the day of the race. Free child care will be available at the church from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday if you make a reservation with your registration. Water stations and restrooms are part of the race, but please, no dogs.

This is a great family event where you can exercise, compete and have fun running and walking through Gulf Breeze while supporting outreach to those in need.

For more information, contact Dave Babcock at (850) 934- 6294 or d3840bab@aol.com. People 4 People 5k run/walk application, information, bulletins and newsletters are available on the Web at stanngulfbreeze. org. Race applications are also available at local gyms, local sporting goods and running shoe stores, at the church office, and via on-line at www.active.com.
