The road between Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach has been closed to traffic since Hurricane Ivan. Last Friday the part of the road that leads to Opal Beach (named after Hurricane Opal in 1995, which also had destroyed the road) was opened- about half way to Pensacola Beach. The road is named J. Earl Bowden Way, and Bowden (center, front row) joined representatives from the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, the state parks department, and members of the beach Beautification committee to open the gate to the road Friday morning. Three cars and a bicyclist were waiting to travel the newly paved road.
