BRIEFS The Community Life Center in Gulf Breeze will host its annual Student Art Show from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, May 16. Art instructor Dawn Jongko teaches students ages 5-15 in home-school groups as well as a community class. The event is to encourage art awareness for kids and support the homeschool community. A majority of the students are in Gulf Breeze, but Jongko also teaches classes in Pensacola, Milton and Gulf Breeze/Navarre. For more information, call 437-9918. Outside Arts Fair on tap May 17-18 Organizers of the 5th Annual Outside Arts Fair are making final preparations for the twoday, 'locals for locals' art show May 17-18 in Bartram Park in Pensacola from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The Fair, which started as an intimate gathering of local artists in the front yard of an art enthusiast's home, has blossomed into an event that celebrates and embraces the traditions of Northwest Florida's arts and culture. The event is free and open to the public. More than 80 artists will be displaying a wide variety of media including watercolors, wood crafts, jewelry, pottery, raku, sculpture and photography. New in 2008, the OAF will feature an interactive children's area, the Kids Art Station with two family fun activities each day. In addition, the Fair will be going 'green,' with a number of recycling receptacles throughout the exhibition area. Participants are invited to bring recyclables (aluminum, paper and plastic - no glass please). Library Book Club to meet May 19 The Gulf Breeze Library Book Club will hold its next monthly meeting Monday, May 19, at 5:30 pm in the small conference room of the Library, 1060 Shoreline Drive. The Club usually meets on the fourth Monday of each month, but Memorial Day will push it to the third Monday this month only. The book selected for this month is 'Emma' by Jane Austen. Baskin Robbins aids firefighters The Baskin Robbins at 205 Gulf Breeze Parkway offered consumers 31-cent scoops of ice cream to highlight the national retailer's $100,000 donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The local event was held between 5-10 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze location, and hundreds of local residents took advantage of the slashed prices.
