Historical Society poised to install new slate of officers

The Gulf Breeze Area Historical Society will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Gordon Sprague Antique Auto Museum Westfield Road.

The program will be the installation of officers and a tour.

Gulf Breeze Optimists Club

Gulf Breeze Optimists braved morning rain on Saturday, May 3, to prepare hamburgers, hot dogs and Chef Fred Seager's famous French Fries for the Oriole Beach Elementary School Carnival.

This has been an annual fund-raising event for more than 15 years. The Carnival features indoor and outdoor fun, music, food and a silent auction with elegant prizes.

Charles Gray, Optimist member and former Oriole Beach principal, introduced new principal Dawn Alt, who greeted the Club with smiles and thanks.

GBMS Junior Optimists Club

The Gulf Breeze Middle School Junior Optimist Club presented a check for $300 to Liz Ohlhorst, Director of the Humane Society Pet Adoption Center, at its April 28 meeting.

The Club has donated over $2,300 this year to the Middle and High School Science Olympiad, the Sarah Brown Memorial Scholarship and Heavenly Blessings Mission.

Pete Della Ratta, Optimist member and advisor to the Middle School Optimist Club, praises the energy, initiative and effort the group brings to their projects which benefit so many in the community.

The Gulf Breeze High School Junior Optimists will join the Middle School members for their final meeting June 2 to socialize and share the year's experiences in community service.

Main Street Milton

Main Street Milton presents an outdoor Summer Concert Series. These concerts are free and take place in downtown Milton along the Riverwalk just south of the Veterans Memorial.

Chef Fred Seager makes his famous French Fries for the Oriole Beach Carnival.
They are planned for the third Saturday of each month beginning May 17 and running until Oct. 18. The first concert Saturday will feature Touch of Blue from 6-8 p.m.

It's a great blues band with a whole lot of soul! So take your lawn chair for family fun and great music. For more information, call 626-6246.

Adventure Club/ Center for Learning

There is still time to take advantage of many of the adventures planned for May. The Adventure Club is sponsored by the Center for Lifelong Learning on the University of West Florida campus in Fort Walton Beach. The goal of the club is to provide members a way to stay active in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere.

Tuesday, May 20, 4 p.m. Bike ride in the Gulf Breeze/Tiger Point area and enjoy the free Bands on the Beach concert on Pensacola Beach after the ride. Bring a folding chair and picnic supper for the concert. Riders will meet at the National Seashore Naval Live Oaks Visitors Center on Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze.
