Poster contest celebrates 450 years

Artists are invited to leave their mark on Pensacola's history by designing the signature poster for the 450th anniversary celebration.

Celebrate Pensacola, Inc., a non-profit organization managing the celebration, is hosting the poster contest to commemorate Pensacola's founding in 1559 and reflect the rich history, culture and events that have made Pensacola the fascinating community it is today.

The 450th celebration will begin May 23 and end 450 days later on Aug. 15, 2009.

Amateur and professional artists of any age are invited to submit poster designs representing the 450-year history of Pensacola.

The winning artist will receive $1,000.

The contest deadline is noon on Monday, May 19.

The winning poster design will be unveiled at the 450th kick-off celebration held at 5 p.m. on May 23 on Palafox Place at the Escambia County Courthouse.
