Go hear what the 'Rumors' are all about America's premier comic playwright, Neil Simon, delights audiences with his out and out funny offering, "Rumors." The comedy opens Friday, May 9 at Pensacola Little Theatre for a two-weekend run. In the play, four couples are at the townhouse of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. The party never begins because the host has shot himself in the head (it's only a flesh wound) and his wife is missing. His lawyer's cover up gets progressively more difficult to sustain as the other guests arrive and nobody can remember who has been told what about whom. Doors slam and hilarity abounds as the couples get more and more crazed. "Rumors" is a Curtain Call production, produced and starring Valerie Russenberger. The talented cast includes many veterans of Pensacola Little Theatre and Curtain Call productions, including Scott Haring, Carol Kahn Parker, Kevin P. Kern, Donna Quinn, Bob Lamar, Laura Sebastian, James Poule, Larry Hines and LaVetta Fowler. "Rumors" begins at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Glove Lady's exhibit on display at Wentworth The glove lady stopped to pick up her first glove, a ladies cotton gardening glove, when she was in college. Twenty years and 400 gloves later, she finally had an outlet where the world could see them. Linda Bills Shirley has 338 of her "Found Gloves" displayed in the T.T. Wentworth, Jr. Florida State Museum in Pensacola. They will be on display until the end of May. Gale Messerschmidt, curator of exhibits for the museum, was trying to find an exhibit for their theme "Cabinet of Curiosities, Home to Magnificent Obsessions." She thought Shirley's gloves would be perfect. Messerschmidt met Shirley and originally saw her collection just as she was beginning to make it. "I remembered them forever," Messerschmidt said. "Every time I saw a glove, I would think of her." The display consists of three wall panels filled with rows upon rows of gloves. Some were too fragile to hang, but Shirley still considered them some of her better specimens. It took Shirley about five days to complete it. She would step back from her work, rearrange it and hang more gloves. She also did her own lighting. Shirley, a Gulf Breeze resident, has tagged her gloves with the day, time, place and what she was doing when they were found. She did the same with the contributed gloves. Shirley's display will be a part of the Gallery Night on Friday, May 9 as well. |
