Drug, alcohol awareness program slated for May 15
From Special Reports

Parents in Gulf Breeze and the surrounding area are invited to attend a Drug & Alcohol Awareness Program for Parents from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, in the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center.

Gulf Breeze High School Resource Officer Mark Lyster will deliver a valuable presentation about drugs and alcohol and other issues facing our children.

Bonnie Butcher, a licensed mental health counselor, will offer advice on how to talk to children, and various speakers will offer first-hand accounts of situations they've faced.

Sponsors include Pillars For Promise, Gulf Breeze Police Department, Sports Connection and Grafixnext Design Studio.

There will be a number of resources available for parents during the program.

The Friary, a respected local residential treatment center, will have a representative present and disperse literature on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Handout packets will be distributed at the door, and drug testing kits will be available to take home. Examples of drug and alcohol paraphernalia will be displayed so parents can become aware of what to look for in their homes. A question and answer session also will be held.
