Tiger Point early registration open for football, cheerleading

Early registration for 2008 football and cheerleading participation is now open through May 31 for boys and girls ages 5-14. Registration forms are available at the Tiger Point Park concession stand on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5-8 p.m.

Registration costs for cheerleading include a $65 sign-up fee. A $10 late registration fee will be assessed after May 31. The cost for football is $135, with a $20 late registration fee after May 31. Participation in both sports also includes a $35 annual park family membership. Completed registration forms and checks, made payable to Tiger Point Sports Association, can be dropped in the lock box at the building by the tennis courts or mailed to P.O. Box 6241, Gulf Breeze, Fla. 32563.

Milton horse camp

The Happy Hoofer Horse Camp in Milton is offering students from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties an opportunity to apply for a free spot at Summer Horse Camp. To be considered for the spot, applicants must submit a one-page, hand-written essay on the topic "What Horses Mean to Me."

Girls and boys aged 6 to 16 are eligible to apply. Essays must be received by May 20, and the winners will be announced May 31. Essays will be judged primarily on originality and sincerity, but punctuation and grammar will count.

To apply, mail your essay to 9448 Redland Rd., Milton, FL32583. There are six sessions of camp and at least two winners will be chosen. Be sure to include contact information.

Photo contest soon

The 15th annual Power of Photography photo contest, juried show and trade expo is scheduled for July 11-13 at the Wright Place in Pensacola.

This event is a benefit for ARC Gateway, an organization that helps developmentally disabled children and adults.

Organized by the Wide Angle Photo Club, the contest has over $2,500 in cash and prizes and 74 ribbons to award for the best photographic entries. Photographers of any age and from any community are welcome to enter for $10 per photo.
