GB softball season ends
Finish 10-17

The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin softball team rolled past PHS in the opening round of last week's District 1-4ATournament, only to get shut out by Milton in the semifinals. The Lady Dolphins ended the season at 10-17, their second straight losing season and their sixth straight season on missing the playoffs.

Rosie Atkinson and Lyndsey Wright had two run-scoring hits in a 13-run first inning in the first round win April 13.

Atkinson, who went 2-for-3 and scored three times, doubled to score Adrian Culpepper and Wright before adding an RBI triple. Wright, who went 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBIs, hit two RBI singles in the inning.

Alison Milam, who went 2-for- 4 with two RBIs, hit a two-run triple in the inning, while Anndrea Marsh added an RBI double.

Deannette Zuniga, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, hit an RBI single in the Lady Dolphins' six-run second. Claire Koontz, Catherine Lewis and Zuniga each drew bases loaded walks that drove in three more runs.

Kellie Krueger doubled in the bottom of the third to score both Alexis Castanon and Culpepper.

Koontz scored three times, while Marsh doubled and scored twice.

Zuniga picked up the win, striking out six in two innings. Culpepper pitched the fourth and fifth innings, striking out three. Milton 10, Lady Dolphins 0

The Lady Panthers scored a run with two outs in the first, then added three of its six runs with two outs in the second as they rolled over GBHS in the district semifinals April 15.

Milton's Alyssa Larson held Gulf Breeze to only two hits - a single by Marsh in the second inning and a single by Zuniga in the fourth. Lewis' two out walk in the fifth was the team's only other baserunner.

Zuniga pitched the first three innings, while Milam, who threw five innings of no-hit ball with 11 strikeouts in a regular season game at Milton, pitched the fourth inning.
