Girls track wins first district since 2000
Santiago breaks school record in triple jump, 24 qualify for regional meet

The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin track team won their first district title in eight years April 9 in Panama City.

The Lady Dolphins finished the District 1-4A meet with 175 points, followed by West Florida (139), Arnold (100), Catholic (81), Marianna (54), Bay (54), Walton (28.33) and Chipley (7.66).

A total of 13 girls qualified for Wednesday's Region 1-4A meet in Jacksonville, led by Briana Santiago. The junior qualified in four events, including the triple jump, where she set a new school record last week with a leap of 37 feet, four inches.

Senior Lauren Musick also qualified in four events, including the 4x400 meter relay, where she, Katie Aldridge, Laurin Halstead and Jen Pfeifler (all freshmen), set a new school record with a 4:15.15. Pfeifler and junior Emily Tryon both qualified in three events, as did senior Will Thomas. Tryon broke her own school record in the mile with a time of 5:23.37.

The boys team took third with 105 points. Host Bay won the meet with 155 points, followed by West Florida (134), Catholic (73), Arnold (54), Marianna (51), Chipley (38), Northview (27) Walton (9).

The following are the result from last week's meet. The top four in each advanced to regionals, with the top four from that meet advance to the 2A state meet April 26 in Winter Park.
