Ballet Pensacola's Dancing With The Stars Gala
Ballet Pensacola announces its annual fundraising gala, May 3, at 7 p.m. at My Spayce in downtown Pensacola. It is sure to be the event of the season. The Dancing with the Stars Gala is Ballet Pensacola's largest fundraising event of the season and allows Ballet Pensacola to continue to pursue its mission of enhancing the cultural landscape of Northwest Florida. Proceeds from the event support the Dance Chance scholarship program that provides access to the arts to individuals who otherwise would find it financially impossible. It also enables Ballet Pensacola to produce its Discover Dance outreach program that introduces the performing arts to schoolaged children throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library
Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library generally have two book sales each year to raise money for the library. Unfortunately, the contributions of books for the sale, which would have been in March, were too few. So the Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library are asking the community to contribute enough books in May so that a sale can be scheduled. Please contribute any paperbacks and hardbacks, fiction and non-fiction books you no longer need. Cookbooks, travel books, biographies and jigsaw puzzles are popular. Textbooks and encyclopedias are not needed and do not sell well. If a potential contributor needs to have books picked up, arrangements can be made by calling the library at 850-932-5166.
Pensacola Camellia Club
The regular third Tuesday monthly meeting of the Pensacola Camellia Club was held April 15 in the Garden Center on 9th Avenue in Pensacola. The program, presented by Second Vice President and Program Chair John Davy, was titled "Propagating Camellias by Air-layering and Rooting." Davy is a commercial nurseryman with Panhandle Growers in Milton. The public is invited, free of charge and light refreshments will be served.
There will be no regular meetings during the summer months. There will be a picnic for members and guests on Saturday, May 10. The third Tuesday meeting in August will be a nohost dinner at a location to be announced. Regular meetings will resume in September.
New officers of the Pensacola Camellia Club were installed at the annual banquet and mini-camellia show in February at the Pensacola Yacht Club. Officers installed were President Dr. Tom Birdwell, First Vice President Bill Lyford, Second Vice President and Program Chair John Davy, Third Vice President and Membership Chair Dr. Gordon Eade, Treasurer Thekla Morris and Secretary Norman Vickers. New board members include Dr. Bill Bennett, Carol Comber, Jack O'Donnell, Roger Vinson and Dr. Ben Williamson. Immediate past President Skip Vogelsang gave a summary of his year as president.
At their annual banquet, what do Camellia People do for entertainment? They have a minicamellia show for themselves. Winners of that show were Carl Brady who won best bloom in three categories and Roger Vinson and Bob Bothfeld, one category each. Norman Vickers was named Person of the Year for his work with the Camellia Club, especially in membership and publicity. Jazz and classical guitarist Arturo provided music for the occasion. For information and membership, call Gordon Eade at 476-4760.
