Garden club visits unique GB museum

Submitted photo Carole Simpson from Garden Gate, right, presented a program to the Santa Rosa shores Women's Club on landscaping with native plants, using natural fertilizers and pesticides. Next month's program will be Chef Willie demonstrating his fabulous cooking.
The Driftwood Garden Club was in for a treat on their annual field trip when they drove to Gordon and Betty Sprague's Antique Car and Farm Machinery Museum in Gulf Breeze. Gordon Sprague was there to meet the group and introduce them to Sprague museum.

The museum was started in 2003, and now has 25 cars including the racecars that Mr. Sprague used as a racecar driver. Sprague explained how he had purchased some of the beautiful cars and some of the fine points about each one.

The antique toys that lined the walls as well as the antique cook stove where the ladies signed the guest register were also interesting to see before they were taken to another building. This building housed antique farm machinery and included 15 tractors and a fire truck parked outside.

Vice President and Program Chairman Kathy Cannon arranged the trip, which concluded with lunch at Tea Time. There was no formal business meeting, however, the nominating committee, Barbara Laugel, Dot Morgan, and Pat Landfair and President Millie Dehn, met afterward at the new home of Dot Jordan in Gulf Breeze.

St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Youth Community Relay for Life

The Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) will be walking Relay For Life on April 25-26 at the Gulf Breeze High School Football Stadium. The Youth want to contribute to the community and to raise awareness to help eliminate cancer. More than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected in the United States this year. These are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each person can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That's why the St. Francis EYC decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life right here in the Gulf Breeze community.

Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings the community together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early. The society helps people with cancer in the Gulf Breeze community. Efforts at Relay For Life can help the American Cancer Society keep working toward a cancer-free future.

The St. Francis EYC wants to invite citizens in both Gulf Breeze and the surrounding community to show support in the ongoing fight against cancer by joining them for this year's event. For more information contact Jane Ellis at the parish office at 850-932-2861. Each person will make a real difference in the lives of people facing cancer and in the lives of the people who love them. Gulf Isle Neighbors help the critters

Bunco has been added to the schedule on the third Friday of each month starting April 18.

Computer classes have become so popular they are starting a regularly scheduled computer workshop every Tuesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. If anyone has computer expertise in any area and would like to assist facilitating the computer workshop, please contact Mike at 850-939-6973 or Lois at 850-939-2174.
