FavorHouse seminars aim to end violence against women FavorHouse of Northwest Florida will present a free seminar with Tony Porter, a national and international educator, author and filmmaker on April 25 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at New World Landing in Pensacola. The seminar will teach participants to recognize and stop colluding with other men by getting out of their socially defined roles, and take a stance to end violence against women. The seminar also aims to educate and re-educate sons and other young men about their responsibility in ending men's violence against women. One aim is to stop supporting the notion that men's violence against women can end by providing treatment for individual men. Mental illness, lack of anger management skills, chemical dependency, and stress are only excuses of men's behavior, Porter says. Porter adds that accepting our responsibility that violence against women will not end until men become part of the solution to end it. He says we must take an active role in creating a cultural and social shift that no longer tolerates violence against women. The seminar subject is a continuation of Tony Porter's keynote address presented at the White Rose Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. just prior to this seminar. For Information Call 850- 434-1177. Registrations may be emailed to danielle@favorhouse. gccoxmail.com or fax to 850-434-9987. Registration for seminar due by April 18. |
