Dolphins split pair of games

Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News The Dolphins break the huddle in between innings of a recent game.
The Gulf Breeze Dolphin baseball team bounced back from a loss to Glenwood Academy to defeat Escambia 8- 5 March 26 in Gulf Breeze.

Mark Waghalter threw a twohit shutout, striking out six, while walking none and throwing only 70 pitches. Shane Dorlag had two hits in the game with a pair of runs batted in.

Dolphins 5, Escambia 0

Gulf Breeze scored one in the first, two in the second, one in the fourth and one in the sixth to beat the Gators.

Kameron Brunty doubled with two outs in the first inning and scored on a bases loaded single by Patrick Vance. Kyle Schnackenberg, running for catcher Kolton Hanke, who led off the second with a double, scored on a one out double by Dorlag. Brunty walked before Dorlag scored on a double steal.

In the fourth inning, Dane Monnin hit a lead-off single. He came in to score off a Dorlag two out single to make it 4-0.

GBHS rounded out the scoring in the sixth, when Vance reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

Glenwood Academy 11,

Dolphins 3

The Phenix City, Ala. based Glenwood Academy, the defending 3A Alabama Independent School Association champions, broke open a close game March 25 with a five run sixth and a two-run seventh.

The Gators scored one in the second and three in the third before Gulf Breeze pulled to within one in the bottom of the fifth. Dorlag doubled to score Waghalter and Hanke, who both singled. T.J. Jordan followed with a sac fly that scored Monnin, who also singled.

But Glenwood would put the game away by scoring all five of their sixth inning runs with two outs.

Vance and Scott both had hits in the loss for Gulf Breeze, who host Jay Monday at 2 p.m.

Dolphin ninth grade 8,

Escambia 5

Justin Ratte struck out seven and allowed only three hits in five innings as Gulf Breeze needed a five-run fifth and a two-run sixth for a come from behind win over the Gators March 26.

Trip Rowe and Brandon Sorenson both went 2-for-2 and scored once, while Taylor Webb scored twice. Mitch Yano also had two hits in the win.

Dolphin ninth grade 9,

Tate 4

Gulf Breeze used a six-run fourth inning to beat the Aggies Thursday.

Jase Brown went 2-for-3 with a double and scored once, while Rowe went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Webb went 2-for-4 and scored once.

Sorenson struck out a pair in five innings, allowing five hits, while Dallas Biederman allowed three hits over the final two innings, striking out one.

Pace ninth grade 11,

Dolphins 1

Gulf Breeze was held to only three hits as Pace scored three in the first and two in the third to set the tone early Friday.

Trevor Challenor's double scored Ratte, who singled, in the bottom of the fourth. Webb's single in the seventh was their only other hit.
