7 students expelled for pot, weapons
BY PAM BRANNON Gulf Breeze News news@gulfbreezenews.com

Pot seems to be the drug of choice for Santa Rosa County students these days, and many are paying a high price for it through a year's expulsion from school. Gulf Breeze High suffered the most number of students expelled this month by the school board of any high school in the county, with four of the six GBHS students expelled for marijuana use or possession.

Two Gulf Breeze students were expelled for negotiating the sale of marijuana on school grounds, and two others were expelled for possession and under the influence of marijuana on school grounds. But two other GBHS students were expelled for possession of weapons - one concerning a gun, and another student bringing a razor blade to school.

One Navarre High student was expelled this month, and it was for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on campus.

Milton High School saw three students expelled at last week's school board meeting, with one of those being for marijuana and one expulsion for assault on another student, and a third student expelled for possession of weapons, carrying five knives.

Even the county's Vocational School and Santa Rosa Community Ed high school (adult high) saw students expelled, with a student at the vocational school distributing pornographic materials to minors, and a student at the adult high school being in possession of marijuana.

There were even three expulsions from middle schools this month - two from Woodlawn Beach for possession of marijuana, and one from Avalon Middle also for possession of marijuana.

The school board did re-instate eight students back to their home schools, allowing early termination of their expulsions.
